  • Description

1985 Château La Lagune is a graceful, fully mature Haut-Médoc from one of the most charming Bordeaux vintages of the 1980s. After four decades in bottle, it now shows a beautifully evolved, classical profile, where gentle fruit, savoury complexity and silky texture sit in perfect harmony.

In the glass, it presents a brick-garnet core with a broad, gently fading rim. The nose is refined and inviting: dried redcurrant and soft cassis mingle with cedar, cigar box and pencil shavings, alongside hints of leather, forest floor and dried herbs. Subtle touches of tobacco, spice and a faint floral lift add extra layers as it opens in the glass.

On the palate, it is medium-bodied, supple and fully resolved. Fine, powdery tannins carry flavours of dried cherry, plum, leaf tobacco and earthy spice, with a discreet graphite note running through the mid-palate. Acidity is soft but still present, keeping everything in balance and lending a gentle freshness that stops the wine feeling tired. The finish is long, savoury and quietly persistent, echoing cedar, spice and gently fading fruit.

This is a bottle for lovers of mature claret, offering authenticity and old-school charm rather than power or density. Serve at cellar temperature after a careful, brief decant to remove sediment. A delightful opportunity to enjoy a classically styled La Lagune from the excellent 1985 vintage—elegant, nuanced and thoroughly ready to drink.
