    Graham’s, 1977 Vintage Port

    Vintage & Background
The 1977 vintage is recognised as one of the defining years of the 20th century for Port – a classic declared vintage that produced wines of immense depth, power, and longevity. Graham’s, renowned for its rich and opulent house style, crafted a benchmark wine in 1977 that remains one of the finest expressions of the year. Sourced from top vineyards including Quinta dos Malvedos, this Port has spent nearly five decades evolving into a beautifully mature yet still vibrant wine.

    Appearance & Nose
Deep garnet core with a gently tawny rim, showing superb colour for its age. The bouquet is complex and seductive, with layers of black cherry, fig, and plum compote, intertwined with notes of cedar, tobacco, cacao, and warm spice. Secondary aromas of rose petal, balsamic, and fine leather emerge with air, reflecting its long bottle ageing.

    Palate & Texture
The palate is rich, silky, and wonderfully balanced, combining sweet, mature fruit with savoury complexity. Flavours of dark berries, dried fig, mocha, and spice unfold in waves, supported by refined tannins and fresh acidity. The finish is long, warming, and beautifully nuanced, showcasing the hallmark Graham’s depth and generosity.

    Serving & Cellaring
Decant gently to remove sediment and allow 2–4 hours to open fully. Drinking beautifully now but will continue to evolve gracefully for decades if cellared well.

    ***92 Points Aggregated Critic Score***

The 1977 Graham's vintage port is a stunning example of a fully declared vintage. Intense candied fruit aromas intermingle with cinnamon and clove spice leading to a palate of sweet jammy figs and milk chocolate notes. A fine port with long lingering finish that is ready for drinking now but, obviously as with all great ports, has many years ahead of it.

    Reviews
"...it's outstanding quality... Medium ruby-red. Aromas of milk chocolate, plum, mint and violet. Full-bodied, with medium sweetness and lots of berry and cherry fruit. Very fruity and fresh. Long and lively. Delicious now, but will improve."
James Suckling , Wine Spectator 2007

"Quite deep crimson but with an evolved ruby to brick rim. Rich, round nose – seems at first almost fully evolved and yet with a real punch of acidity and, right at the end a kick of tannin. Lots of interest and life. A can can dancer. Complete and with lots still to give."
    Jancis Robinson , jancisrobinson.com 2004

"All succulent fruit, luscious and supple, sweet but balanced. Generous and satisfying fruit-cake sweetness contrasts black-pepper tannins. Fresh and bright."
Joshua Greene , Wine & Spirits Magazine

    Serving Suggestion:
When mature this port will need to be decanted to remove sediment. Serve at room temperature on its own or with vintage mature blue cheeses such as stilton Cashel Blue, Roquefort, Gorgonzola and Saint Augur Blue. Vintage port is also good with chocolate - a flattering accompaniment to top quality hand-made chocolates and artisan chocolate bars.
