Maynard’s 80 Year Old Tawny Port

A rare and extraordinary expression of time, Maynard’s 80 Year Old Tawny Port represents the pinnacle of the house’s centuries-old tradition of ageing Port in seasoned oak casks in the Douro Valley. Crafted from some of Maynard’s most precious reserves, this exceptional blend captures the quiet beauty that only many decades of patient maturation can deliver.

In the glass it shows a luminous deep amber colour with olive-mahogany reflections, the natural signature of very long ageing in wood. The bouquet is immediately captivating and remarkably complex. Aromas of polished walnut, roasted almond and antique cedar unfold alongside layers of candied orange peel, dried fig and caramelised sugar. Subtle notes of pipe tobacco, espresso, old leather and delicate spices add further depth, while a lifted citrus brightness brings freshness and definition to the aromatic profile.

The palate is profoundly elegant and seamless. Silky in texture yet intensely concentrated, the wine glides across the palate with flavours of toasted hazelnut, butterscotch, dried apricot and marmalade. A fine thread of acidity maintains perfect balance, carrying the flavours effortlessly into a finish of extraordinary length. Notes of molasses, orange zest and aged wood linger for minutes, leaving a sense of harmony and refinement that defines truly great Tawny Port.

Maynard’s 80 Year Old Tawny is not simply a wine but the result of generations of careful stewardship in the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia — a testament to the patience, skill and heritage of the Douro.

Serve slightly chilled (12–14°C) in a small wine or Port glass to reveal the full spectrum of aromas. Once opened, the wine will remain stable for several weeks if kept cool.

A wine for reflection and celebration, it is best enjoyed slowly on its own, or paired with roasted nuts, almond desserts, crème brûlée or mature cheeses.
