Marchesi Villadoria - Riserva Speciale

Opened, decanted and 5-6 hours before dinner. Garnet colour and quite clear. The wine evolved over time to ripe cherry marinated in alcohol, and some spices, like pepper and clove . Structure was still alive with bright acidity. Still enjoyable and a tribute to this vintage's endurance. We had a good time, for sure.
This wine comes from the Marenca and Rivette estate, besides Margheria, and now for the last 40+ years in the hand of a famous winery producing there extremely premium wines. A Passito made from grapes of Erbaluce native to the Piemonte region in Northern Italy. The grapes are harvested at the end of September and laid in small wooden cases where clusters are close to each another. At the beginning of March, after a drying period of about five months, grapes undergo a careful selection and a slow pressing process. The resulting must is fermented in barriques. Aging lasts four years, at least two of which in barriques.

Enologica Valtelinese

Inferno is one of five viticultural sub-zones specifically identified as producing Valtellina wines of particularly high quality: the other four are Grumello, Sassella, Maroggia and Valgella. Inferno means 'hell' in Italian, and refers to the slopes between Sondrio town and the village of Tresivio. Although DOC laws do not explain the origins of this name, it has been suggested that in summer the slopes here get noticeably hotter than the rest of the valley.
