The Quinta da Devesa White Port is made with grapes from the 1973 harvest and matured in cask until bottling in 2022, this is a fabulous white Port that is golden in colour, with a nose of sweet spices, iodine, wood notes and candied citrus. Fonseca Port, 1973
Crusted Port - Bottled in 1973
Badly Damaged labels
A very rare bottle of 1973 crusted port.
Crusted Port is a very small category, named because of the 'crust' of sediment that it forms in the bottle. Invented by the British-owned Port houses predominantly for the British Port drinker, it is intended to be a more economical alternative to Vintage or Late Bottled Vintage. Crusted is a blend of several harvests, which are bottled without being filtered and laid down to mature like Vintage wines. Using this approach allows the manufacturer to use some of the lesser harvests but still produce a good rich full bodied wine at an economical price. …

Cockburn Port, 1970
Vintage Port
Cockburn, 1970
Vintage Port
The legendary 1970 vintage is widely regarded as one of Cockburn’s last great “classic” productions before stylistic changes later in the decade. Now over half a century old, it shows the remarkable longevity and depth that made Cockburn a benchmark house for robust, fruit-driven Vintage Port with a distinctive wild-berry character. Time has softened the once-powerful structure, replacing youthful muscle with refinement, harmony, and aromatic complexity.
In the glass, the wine displays a deep tawny-garnet core with a lifted, mature nose of fig, cedar, rose oil, dried cherry, and warm spices. …

*** 93 Points (Parker) ***
"...a definite Bordeaux-like nose! Well defined, foursquare at first, opening up nicely with maraschino cherries, cloves, burnt wood/embers and bergamot, gaining intensity all the time in the glass. The palate is very harmonious and elegant. Fleshy, harmonious, seductive on the palate with allspice, nutmeg and ginger sprinkled over the viscous finish and finally, freshly rolled tobacco on the aftertaste. Good length, powerful like many of the 1970 ports continue to be. Superb. Drink now-2020+ Neil Martin Wine Journal Tasted September 2009.

Quinta do Noval Nacional, 1970
Nacional- Vintage Port
“This wine is a mysterious phenomenon, a magical wine produced in extremely limited quantities and only in a few years each decade. It is the expression of a terroir and confirms something that is for me a deeply held belief. The Nacional is great because of the grapes and where they come from, not because of anything particular that we do. It has a unique personality, an extraordinary intensity and, even after many years of ageing, retains an astonishing youthfulness.” Christian Seely
The terroir: a small area at the heart of the Quinta do Noval vineyard planted with ungrafted vines and untouched by phylloxera, described as “attached to the soil of the Nation”. …

Taylor's 1970 Vintage Port reviews.
99 points Wine Enthusiast
This wine's dark garnet color with minimal bricking suggests a relatively youthful wine and this certainly could age longer, although it's also delicious now. Wonderfully complex floral and herbal scents easily move into deep, rich flavors of chocolate and cherries, sprinkled with a healthy dose of Douro minerality and spice. Drink or hold. (JC) (2/2007)
