The 1958 vintage was not universally declared, yet in the right hands it has produced wines of considerable charm and longevity. Sandeman’s example offers a rare opportunity to experience a fully mature Port from the late 1950s.

Fonseca Port, 1955
Vintage Port Christies label
The 1955 was the only year declared by Fonseca in the 50s. An underrated, indeed almost forgotten, vintage that deserves to be rediscovered.
Notes on the year
The year was marked by an excellent ripening season with hot weather in July and August meaning that the crop was perfectly mature towards the end of September. Most of the well known shippers declared 1955.
Tasting Note
Medium to deep red, with a remarkably youthful ruby edge. Incredible richness and almost young grapey fruit character. As it breathes it opens to reveal spicy mature dark fruit aromas. On the palate it fills the mouth with round, marzipan richness mixed with full chocolate flavour. …

Graham's, 1955
Vintage Port
The 1955 Graham’s Vintage Port is one of the great post-war classics and a benchmark for long-lived, opulent Port. Nearly seventy years on, it continues to display the house’s signature richness, offering a gorgeous aromatic profile of sweet dried fruits, rose petal, walnut and warm spice. The colour has faded to a deep tawny-ruby rim, yet the core retains remarkable vitality for a wine of this age.
On the palate, the 1955 delivers a silken, almost weightless texture. Flavours of fig, caramelised orange peel, molasses and redcurrant mingle with notes of almond and soft cocoa. The sweetness is beautifully integrated, never heavy, and balanced by a gentle thread of acidity that keeps the wine fresh and lifted. …

Quinta do Noval, 1954
Late Bottled Vintage Port
UK Bottled by Greens Ltd
A beautiful and extremely rare bottle.
The 1954 Quinta Do Noval LBV was produced by the traditional Port method, with a long, intense maceration during alcoholic fermentation with the aim of extracting tannin, colour and flavour from the skins. This was done both by foot-treading in traditional granite lagars (shallow vats), and by pumping over. Fermentation temperatures and densities were carefully monitored to choose the ideal moment to fortify. The wines remained in the Douro until the spring when they were transported to Vila Nova de Gaia to mature in large oak vats.

95 Points - Robert Parker
We are delighted to offer a UK exclusive on Burmester Colheita Ports.
Reviews:
"(2015) Lovely dark caramel colour, with some truffle and tea notes, edges of olive and green fruits (fig). The maturity on the palate is obvious, again with fabulous sweetness and brown sugar richness, Muscovado and walnuts, but the hallmark of the fresh orange and lemon acidity plays against that and the coffee and walnut cake sweetness and richness."
