Croft Port, 1966
Vintage Port
UK bottled Army and Navy Bottling
Tasting Notes: A slightly deeper core compared to the ’63. The nose is very ripe with mulberry and tobacco with a hint of balsam, just lacking a little freshness and delineation. The palate is similar to the ’63, very well-balanced and cohesive, a slightly viscous texture, fresh and surfeit with joie-de-vivre and vivacity. Wild strawberry, lemongrass and fig towards the finish, this is certainly the “dark horse” of the decade and in my humble opinion, superior to the ’63. A little gem. Tasted November 2007. D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1966
Verdelho Madeira
D’Oliveira Verdelho Madeira 1966 is a stunning example of the age-worthy magic of Madeira and a benchmark for the Verdelho style. Produced by Pereira d’Oliveira, one of the most revered and traditional houses on the island, this wine was aged in old oak casks in their Funchal lodges for decades before bottling — a slow, oxidative ageing process that concentrates the wine’s flavors while maintaining remarkable freshness and balance.
Verdelho sits stylistically between the drier Sercial and the sweeter Bual and Malmsey styles, offering a medium-dry profile that is both vibrant and complex. By the time the 1966 vintage was bottled (often in the early 2000s), the wine had developed a deep amber hue with greenish tinges at the rim. …

Dow's, 1966
Vintage Port
Dow’s 1966 Vintage Port is a superb expression of one of the finest declared vintages of the 20th century. Known for its structure and longevity, this wine has developed beautifully over nearly six decades. Dow’s house style—drier and more austere than many of its peers—has given this vintage a distinctive edge, allowing it to age with poise, complexity, and remarkable depth.
On the nose, it offers an elegant tapestry of aromas: dried figs, sultanas, cedar wood, and hints of tobacco and dark chocolate. As it opens, more subtle notes emerge—orange peel, roasted nuts, and an earthy minerality that speaks to its Douro origins. …

Gould Campbell, 1966
Vintage Port
The grapes for Gould Campbell Ports are drawn from vineyards in the Cima Corgo area of the Douro, where the yields are very low (about one pipe - 550 litres - per 1,000 vines) but the wines have immense complexity and depth. The winery is situated at Pinhão, where a proportion of the wines are made in modern temperature controlled fermentation tanks, however a significant proportion of the wines for Gould Campbell Ports are still made in small quintas in the hills around Pinhão, using the ancient method of treading the grapes by foot in stone tanks called laggers.
Reviews Michael Broadbent "Vintage Wine" (Broadbent, 2002)

Leacock, 1966
Bual
John Leacock sailed to Madeira from the United Kingdom (after the death of his father) in 1741 and at the age of 15 became the youngest apprentice at the firm of Madeira merchants, Catanach and Murdoch staying until his contract expired on 11 March 1749. During his apprenticeship he had been in constant contact with an old school friend, John Patient, residing at that time in Charles Town, South Carolina who suggested that they themselves should commence trading. Leacock agreed and this marks the birth of the now world famous company. Bottled in 1994 after 28 years in cask, this totally unique vintage Madeira is sweet, though markedly less so than Malmsey Madeira. …
