Chianti, 2003

Tenuta del Poggio

This mature Chianti shows developed aromas of dried cherry, leather, tobacco, and a hint of balsamic and spice. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied with softened tannins, balanced acidity, and flavors of stewed red fruit, earth, and a touch of cedar from bottle age. The finish is smooth and lingering, with a gentle rustic warmth typical of aged Sangiovese.

Serve slightly below room temperature (around 17–18 °C / 63–65 °F). Decant for 30–45 minutes to open up the tertiary aromas. Excellent with roasted meats, aged pecorino, or classic Tuscan dishes like pappardelle al cinghiale (wild boar ragu).

Chianti, 1990

Grasi - Vigna Gaversa

1990 Chianti – Grasi, “Vigna Gaversa” (Tuscany, Italy)

A beautifully mature, single-vineyard Chianti that trades power for perfume and poise. Brick-garnet with a tawny rim, it opens on lifted aromas of dried cherry and amarena, rose petal, cedar and sweet tobacco, with hints of orange peel, tea leaf and a gentle balsamic note. The palate is mid-weight, savoury and silken: lively, old-school acidity carries red-cherry fruit, dried herbs and subtle leather; tannins are fine and fully resolved. The finish is long and tapering with cherry skin, cedar spice and dried flowers.

This is dinner-table Chianti in a classical key—elegant, nuanced and ready to pour.

Chianti, 1989

Castelgreve

This 1989 Chianti has reached a refined, mature stage, showing the depth and elegance of aged Sangiovese. The bouquet features aromas of dried cherry, plum, leather, tobacco, and hints of forest floor, spice, and balsamic. On the palate it is medium-bodied, with softened tannins, balanced acidity, and flavours of stewed red fruit, earth, and a gentle touch of cedar. The finish is long, harmonious, and savoury, reflecting the wine’s classic Tuscan character.

Serving Suggestions
For optimal enjoyment, stand the bottle upright for 24–48 hours before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Carefully decant the wine to separate it from the sediment.

Luigi Cecchi

1984 Chianti – Luigi Cecchi (Tuscany, Italy)

A fully mature, classical Chianti that favours perfume and savoury finesse. Brick-garnet with a tawny rim, it lifts with dried cherry and amarena, rose petal, cedar and sweet tobacco, with hints of orange peel, tea leaf and a gentle balsamic note. Mid-weight and silken on the palate: lively, old-school acidity carries red-cherry fruit, dried herbs and subtle leather; tannins are fine and resolved, the finish tapering with cherry skin, cedar spice and dried flowers.

Producer note: Luigi Cecchi e Figli is a long-established Tuscan house known for clean, traditional Sangiovese-led wines that emphasise aromatic lift and food-table elegance—well suited to graceful ageing, as shown here.
