Description

The Massolino Barolo DOCG 2021 Margheria is a single-vineyard Nebbiolo from Serralunga d’Alba, Piedmont, produced by the historic estate Massolino. The Margheria cru is known for giving Barolo wines with strong structure, mineral tension, and excellent ageing potential, and in Massolino’s interpretation it shows a very classic, precise style.

Tasting Notes:

The 2021 vintage is elegant yet firmly structured. The nose opens with aromas of red cherry, raspberry, rose petals, violet, and subtle hints of licorice, tobacco, and crushed stone. On the palate it is linear and well-defined, with firm but refined tannins, bright acidity, and a long, mineral-driven finish. At this stage it is still young and tight, but already very balanced, showing clear depth and significant ageing potential over the next 15–25 years.

Ratings:
95 points – Wine Spectator
96 points – James Suckling

Serving & Food Pairing:

Best served at 18–20°C and ideally decanted for 1–2 hours when young. It pairs beautifully with rich dishes such as braised beef, game, truffle pasta, mushroom risotto, and aged cheeses. Its firm tannic structure and acidity make it ideal for long cellar ageing.

Producer:

Massolino is one of the most respected traditional producers in Barolo, founded in 1896. The estate is particularly known for its holdings in Serralunga d’Alba, including Margheria, Parafada, and Vigna Rionda, producing wines that combine structure, elegance, and long ageing potential through traditional winemaking methods and large oak ageing.
