Description

The Massolino Barolo DOCG 2021 Parussi is a single-vineyard Nebbiolo from Castiglione Falletto, produced by the historic Massolino estate of Serralunga d’Alba, Piedmont. Parussi is the winery’s only Barolo sourced outside Serralunga, and it is known for a style that combines aromatic finesse, mineral tension, and firm structure.

Tasting Notes:

The 2021 vintage is highly expressive but still very young. It opens slowly, showing aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, rose petals, violet, and subtle notes of crushed stone, herbs, and spice. With air, more complex layers emerge: tobacco, balsamic hints, and limestone minerality.

On the palate it is medium-to-full bodied, precise and very structured, with fine but persistent tannins and bright acidity. The texture is elegant rather than heavy, with a long, linear, mineral finish. It is already balanced, but clearly built for long ageing (15–25 years+), gaining depth and complexity over time.

Ratings:
98 points – Robert Parker (Wine Advocate)
95 points – James Suckling

👉 This places Parussi among the highest-rated Massolino Barolos of the 2021 vintage, especially praised for its precision and balance between power and elegance.

Serving & Food Pairing:

Best served at 18–20°C and ideally decanted for 1–2 hours when young. It pairs well with structured dishes such as braised beef, game, truffle pasta, porcini mushroom risotto, and aged cheeses. Its acidity and tannic backbone make it particularly suitable for long cellaring.

Producer:

Massolino is a family-run winery founded in 1896, known for traditional Barolo production with long macerations and ageing in large Slavonian oak casks. While rooted in Serralunga d’Alba, the estate expanded into Castiglione Falletto with Parussi, producing a style that is slightly more perfumed and elegant compared to its more muscular Serralunga crus.
