Description
Tasting Notes:
The 2021 vintage is powerful, tense, and very refined. The nose shows red cherry, raspberry, rose petals, violet, and deeper layers of licorice, tobacco, crushed stone, and balsamic herbs. On the palate it is full-bodied but extremely well-balanced, with firm yet polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, linear, mineral-driven finish. It is still very young and tightly wound, but already shows impressive complexity and clarity, with a long ageing horizon ahead (15–25+ years).
Ratings:
98 points – Wine Advocate (Robert Parker)
97 points – James Suckling
👉 This places it among the highest-rated Barolo 2021 releases from Massolino, consistently praised across major international critics.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Best served at 18–20°C and ideally decanted for 1–2 hours when young. It pairs perfectly with structured dishes such as braised beef, game, truffle pasta, porcini mushroom risotto, and aged cheeses. Its acidity and tannic structure make it especially suited for long cellaring.
Producer:
Massolino is one of the most respected traditional producers in Barolo, founded in 1896. The estate is particularly known for its vineyards in Serralunga, including Parafada, Margheria, and Vigna Rionda. Massolino focuses on classic winemaking—long macerations and ageing in large Slavonian oak—producing wines that emphasize structure, precision, and long-term evolution.
