Description

The Massolino Barolo DOCG 2021 is a highly regarded wine from the Massolino winery, based in Serralunga d’Alba in the heart of the Barolo region, Piedmont, Italy. It is a classic expression of Nebbiolo, produced from carefully selected vineyard parcels that reflect the structure and elegance typical of this area.

Tasting Notes:
The 2021 vintage is an excellent and refined Barolo, showing a precise balance between power and elegance. On the nose it opens with aromas of red cherry, rose petals, violet, and subtle hints of licorice, tobacco, and spice. On the palate it is structured and linear, with firm yet polished tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, mineral-driven finish. The wine is still youthful and tightly wound, but it already shows notable depth and clear potential for long ageing over the next decades.

Ratings:

94 points – Robert Parker (Wine Advocate)

Serving & Food Pairing:
Best served at 18–20°C and ideally decanted for 1–2 hours when young to allow the aromas and structure to fully open. This Barolo pairs beautifully with rich dishes such as braised beef, game stews, truffle pasta, mushroom risotto, and aged cheeses. Its firm structure and acidity make it particularly suited for long-term cellaring.

Producer:
Massolino is a historic family-owned winery founded in 1896 in Serralunga d’Alba. The estate is known for its traditional winemaking approach, long macerations, and ageing in large Slavonian oak casks. It is widely respected for producing classic, structured Barolos from prestigious crus such as Margheria and Parafada, faithfully expressing the terroir of the eastern Langhe.
