Description
1982 Brunello di Montalcino – Luigi Cecchi (Tuscany, Italy)
A fully mature, classical Brunello showing perfume and savoury finesse. Brick-garnet with a broad tawny rim, it opens on dried cherry and cranberry, rose petal and violet, with cedar, leather and sweet tobacco, plus hints of orange peel, black tea, porcini and a gentle balsamic/underbrush note. Mid-weight and silken on the palate: lively, old-school acidity carries red-cherry fruit, dried herbs and subtle leather; tannins are fine and resolved. The finish is long and tapering with cherry skin, cedar spice and dried flowers.
Producer note: Bottled under the Luigi Cecchi label—an historic Tuscan house—this Brunello is rendered in a traditional register: Sangiovese Grosso raised in large old casks and given long bottle rest for lift, poise and graceful tertiary complexity.
Serve: 16–18 °C. Stand upright 12–24 hours; very gentle decant for sediment just before pouring.
Food pairing: Roast lamb or chicken with herbs, pappardelle al ragù, porcini risotto, aged pecorino.
