Description
1975 Caramino, Colli Novaresi
Piedmont, Italy
The 1975 Caramino from Colli Novaresi is a rare and evocative example of northern Piedmont winemaking from a period when the region’s small estates produced wines of quiet distinction and character. The Colli Novaresi hills, lying between Gattinara and Ghemme, are home to elegant Nebbiolo-based reds that combine the grape’s noble structure with the freshness of alpine influence.
In the glass, it displays a pale brick-garnet colour with amber reflections, typical of mature Nebbiolo from this cooler corner of Piedmont. The bouquet is delicate and refined, revealing layers of dried rose, cherry skin, leather, and sweet herbs, underpinned by faint notes of truffle, cedar, and spice.
On the palate, it is silky and graceful, the tannins now fully softened and the acidity lending freshness to flavours of dried red fruit, earthy spice, and balsamic warmth. The finish is long and subtle, echoing with notes of dried flowers and warm stone.
Serving & Pairing:
Serve at 17°C after a short decant to reveal its gentle complexity. Pairs beautifully with truffle pasta, roasted poultry, or aged alpine cheeses, where its finesse and savoury character come to the fore.
Drink now. A graceful, time-softened expression of Colli Novaresi Nebbiolo, offering both regional authenticity and the understated charm of a bygone vintage.
