Description

This 1960 Chianti Riserva Brolio is a rare and exceptional example of long-aged Tuscan Sangiovese, showing profound maturity and elegance. The bouquet reveals complex aromas of dried cherry, plum, leather, tobacco, forest floor, and subtle hints of balsamic, cedar, and spice. On the palate it is medium-bodied yet remarkably structured for its age, with softened tannins, balanced acidity, and flavours of stewed red fruit, earthy herbs, and a gentle savoury undertone. The finish is long, harmonious, and contemplative, reflecting the unique character of a six-decade-old Chianti Riserva.

Serving Suggestions
Stand the bottle upright for 24–48 hours before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Carefully and slowly decant the wine to separate it from the sediment. The cork may crumble or fragment on opening, which is entirely normal for a wine of this age. Serve gently decanted at around 17 °C (63 °F), allowing 30–40 minutes for the wine to open. Pairs beautifully with roasted game, slow-braised meats, earthy mushroom dishes, or aged cheeses such as Pecorino or Parmigiano Reggiano.

For wines of this age, the cork may crumble when opening—this is normal and does not affect the quality of the wine. As with many mature wines, individual bottles may show some variation, reflecting their unique ageing journey. The evolved, savoury character of older wines may not appeal to every palate, but for those who appreciate the grace of time, it offers real depth and authenticity.
