Description
1991 Chianti – Valle Antica (Tuscany, Italy)
A graceful, fully mature Chianti showing the perfume and savoriness that Sangiovese develops with time. Brick-garnet with a tawny rim, the bouquet lifts with dried cherry and amarena, rose petal, cedar and sweet tobacco, touched by orange peel, tea leaf and a gentle balsamic note. The palate is mid-weight and elegant rather than powerful: lively, old-school acidity carries red-cherry fruit, dried herbs and hints of leather; tannins are fine and resolved, giving a silky, tapering finish of cherry skin, cedar spice and dried flowers.
This is dinner-table Chianti—subtle, aromatic and poised—ideal for those who enjoy the tertiary complexity of traditional Tuscan reds. Quietly classical, it excels with simple, honest food and unhurried conversation.
Serve 16–18 °C. Stand upright for 12–24 hours; very gentle decant for sediment just before pouring.
Food pairing Roast chicken with herbs, porcini risotto, pappa al pomodoro, pecorino stagionato.
