Description
Petite Fine Champagne Cognac (Possible 1970s bottling)
Appearance
Deep amber with copper and mahogany hues. Good clarity. Slow, well-defined legs, suggesting extended oak ageing and concentration.
Nose
Initially restrained, then opening gradually with air. Notes of walnut, toasted hazelnut, and old oak, followed by dried fig, prune, and date. Subtle aromas of cocoa powder, vanilla pod, and pipe tobacco. With time, hints of polished leather, antique furniture, and faint rancio emerge.
Palate
Soft entry, immediately rounded and mature. Flavours of dried stone fruit, dark honey, and caramelised orange peel, layered with nutmeg, clove, and cocoa. Oak is present but integrated, lending structure rather than bitterness. Texture is supple, slightly oily, with an old-school, understated elegance.
Finish
Long and warming. Lingering walnut skin, gentle spice, and dry cocoa, with a touch of earthy rancio toward the end. Clean fade, no harshness.
Overall Impression
A quietly confident, traditional estate Cognac showing true maturity rather than power. Not showy, but deeply satisfying, with the hallmarks of well-aged Petite Champagne eaux-de-vie. Best enjoyed slowly, with time in the glass to fully unfold.
Condition
Very Good
