Description
1985 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano – Fattoria del Cerro, Riserva (Tuscany, Italy)
A beautiful, fully mature Nobile Riserva that favours perfume and finesse over power. Brick-garnet with a tawny rim, it opens on dried cherry and amarena, rose petal and cedar, with sweet tobacco, leather and hints of orange peel and black tea. The palate is mid-weight and silken: lively, old-school acidity carries savoury red-cherry fruit, dried herbs and subtle balsamic notes; tannins are fine and resolved. The finish is long and tapering with cherry skin, cedar spice and dried flowers.
Producer note: Fattoria del Cerro is a benchmark Montepulciano estate, noted for Sangiovese (Prugnolo Gentile) from high-lying, breezy sites and traditional ageing that emphasizes aromatic lift and elegance—ideal for graceful long ageing, as shown here.
Serve: 16–18 °C. Stand upright 12–24 hours; very gentle decant for sediment just before pouring.
Food pairing: Roast pork with fennel, bistecca tagliata, porcini risotto, aged pecorino.
