Chateau Montrose, 1976
St Estephe 2me Cru classe
Top Shoulder
Dense and deep colour. The rich nose is and complex, displaying aromas of black fruits, liquorice, pepper, smoke, tobacco and prune. Long and neat on the palate, delivering notes of ripe grapes, prune, and tobacco. The wine is harmonious, fine, light with a beautiful texture of ripe grapes
If the palate is harmonious, long, and soft, the finish is on the other hand, a little short with a tinge of bitterness (Chateau Montrose Website)
Spring was early, and the weather maintained fair and hot from April to June. Therefore, the blossoming took place in June (the mid-blossoming in June 5th) with no coulure nor millerandage due to the excellent climatic conditions. …

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1976
Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe (Base of neck)
Mahogany core with deep brick rim. The nose is actually better than I anticipated with some dusty black fruits, cedar a touch of game, but it certainly lacks vigour and cohesion. The palate is a little tawdry, slightly hollow with an cooked character that jars against some obvious green berries that found themselves fermenting. Linear towards the dry finish, moderate length.

Chateau Potensac, 1976
Medoc
This wine really lives up to the nature of the vintage. Tannins still present , but sufficient fruit to balance the wine. Just a bit of bricking, slight sedimentation, colour still dark purple. Floral fruity nose, with a trace of iron. Slight chalky finish, clearly more tannic than it's age suggests. Suggest something meaty to go with the tannins.

Chateau Yquem, 1976
Sauternes, 1st Growth Classification
Yquem is without doubt, one of the world's finest wine producers, of whom Robert Parker comments: "There is no other wine in the world like it, and there is no other luxury wine that can possibly justify its price as much as Yquem. The remarkable amount of painstaking labor necessary to produce the nectar known as Yquem is almost impossible to comprehend."
"The 1976 Yquem continues to go from strength to strength. Who can ignore the awesome bouquet of spices, honeyed fruit, pineapples, bananas, coconuts, and overripe melons? This full-bodied, viscous, luscious wine has been absolutely delicious since bottling, given its relatively low acidity and precocious personality. …

Dolcetto d'Alba, 1976
New
Fi.lli Cassetta
A native black grape variety of Northern Italy grown almost exclusively in the provinces of Cuneo and Alessandria in Piedmont. It is relatively easy to cultivate, although it is susceptible to fungal diseases. It ripens before Barbera and Nebbiolo and is often grown in high north-facing sites which would be unsuitable for Nebbiolo. The finest Dolcetto wines come from grapes grown on soils rich with white marls, especially those found on the right bank of the River Tauro. The wines generally are low in tannins and acidity and are usually fruity and fragrant, often with hints of almonds.

Nebbiolo D'Alba, 1976
Terre del Barolo
The Nebbiolo d'Alba has a lovely earthy bouquet. The nose has cherries, dark cherries, tar and slight dried rose notes. Complex and layered. Nice acidity. Medium tannins still present. Cherries on the palate too. Nice finish. Great food wine. Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines. Though generally only medium-bodied, the wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavors of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones.

Capel Monte Fontana
"Recioto," as in "Recioto della Valpolicella," refers to a dessert wine made from grapes that were dried on mats after picking. This process turns the grapes closer to raisins, concentrating the flavors. The wines are lovely and taste how you'd expect raisins-turned-wine to taste, rich and sweet.

Ryst-Dupeyon Armagnac, 1976
Ryst Dupeyron Reserve Joseph Millesime vintage Armagnac
50cl bottle
The 1976 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.
The Maison Ryst-Dupeyon was founded by Joseph Dupeyron in 1905. …

Taylor's Port, 1976
Late Bottled Vintage Port
Late Bottled Vintage port is from a single year. The wine ages 4-6 years in old oak casks (opposed to Vintage that ages 2-3). LBV fills the gap between the rubies and the vintage ports since a Ruby Port should be drunk quite young and a great Vintage Port may need 15 to 20 years to really open up and show its splendour. This led to the idea in the 1960s to age the wine 4 to 6 years in large casks before bottling it.
LBV's display the style of a Vintage Port with its deep colour and concentration of fruit but with a more mature character caused by the longer ageing in wood.

1975 Taylor's Vintage Port, 1975
Vintage Port
The 1975 vintage is massively underrated, languishing in the shadows of the great 1970 and 1977 vintages. The Ports produced are lighter in style than other declarations but represent tremendous value. The Taylor's 1975 Vintage Port is no exception. Our tastings over the past few years have shown this wine consitently has a good colour in the glass and a mature nose. It has good structure and backbone that is typical of Taylors. It is a touch spirity, with some gentle, stony, red fruits. On the palate there is an immediately apparent sweetness which persists through to the finish.
Reviews "This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal. …
