Refosco is a very old Italian family of dark-skinned grape varieties native to the northern Italian and neighbouring areas of Friuli, Gavi, Trentino,Istria, and Karst Plateau.It is considered autochthonous in these regions. Taylor's Port, 1976

Late Bottled Vintage Port

Late Bottled Vintage port is from a single year. The wine ages 4-6 years in old oak casks (opposed to Vintage that ages 2-3). LBV fills the gap between the rubies and the vintage ports since a Ruby Port should be drunk quite young and a great Vintage Port may need 15 to 20 years to really open up and show its splendour. This led to the idea in the 1960s to age the wine 4 to 6 years in large casks before bottling it.

LBV's display the style of a Vintage Port with its deep colour and concentration of fruit but with a more mature character caused by the longer ageing in wood.

Ryst Dupeyron Reserve Joseph Millesime vintage Armagnac

The 1975 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.

Vintage Port

The 1975 vintage is massively underrated, languishing in the shadows of the great 1970 and 1977 vintages. The Ports produced are lighter in style than other declarations but represent tremendous value. The Taylor's 1975 Vintage Port is no exception. Our tastings over the past few years have shown this wine consitently has a good colour in the glass and a mature nose. It has good structure and backbone that is typical of Taylors. It is a touch spirity, with some gentle, stony, red fruits. On the palate there is an immediately apparent sweetness which persists through to the finish.

Lovely dark caramel colour, with some truffle and tea notes, edges of olive and green fruits (fig). The maturity on the palate is obvious, again with fabulous sweetness and brown sugar richness, Muscovado and walnuts, but the hallmark of the fresh orange and lemon acidity plays against that and the coffee and walnut cake sweetness and richness.

Tempranillo is a red grape variety which forms the backbone of some of the finest wines from Spain and Portugal. Almost every red wine from Rioja and Ribera del Duero has Tempranillo at its core, and in Portugal the variety is widely used in the Douro Valley – under the name Tinta Roriz – both for table wines and fortified wines (Port). A thick-skinned red grape with a high anthocyanin count that makes for deep-coloured wines with moderate tannins, Tempranillo is well suited to modern consumer tastes. While the variety lacks its own idiosyncratic flavor profile, the wide range of aromas detectable in Tempranillo-based wines result in tasting notes ranging from strawberries, blackcurrants and cherries to prunes, chocolate and tobacco.
