Carinena, 1972

Don Ramon - Vincente Suso e Perez

Carinena is just one of several DO titles used for the wines of Aragon, northern Spain. Winemaking in the area dates back to at least Roman times, and records from that era confirm that locals drank Carinena wines mixed with honey. Many other historical records attest to the quality of the wines from Carinena; King Ferdinand I of Aragon listed it as his preferred wine above all others and the French philosopher Voltaire thought it heavenly. Wine has long been the economic mainstay of the region and a source of great pride and renown.

Eiswein, 1972

Fred Pieroth Binger Bubenstud Eiswein Auslese

This 1972 Eiswein Auslese is very developed, powerful and quite tertiary nose with aromas of bruised apples, dried stone fruits, some golden raisins, a little bit of burnt sugar and a hint honeyed floral character. The wine is intense, acidic, moderately full-bodied and quite oily on the palate with pretty sweet flavors of pronounced golden raisins, some apple jam, a little bit of oxidative nuttiness, a hint of molasses and a touch of dried apricot. The high acidity makes the wine quite structured and keeps the sweetness at bay. The finish is quite developed and rather oxidative with long flavours.

Janneau, 1972

Armagnac 1972 Vintage (Includes presentation box as shown)

The great vintages or millésimés of Janneau are the expression of a single year, most commonly of a single cask. Produced exclusively with the single distillation process, they are the quintessence of this precious distillate aged over the years. Each vintage expresses its unique character. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a sharp contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish.

Marchesi di Barolo

This Marchesi de Barolo from the outstanding 1971 wine vintage is considered to be one of the finest types of wine in the world and is often referred to as 'the King of wines'.

Reviews: "The wine has a clear, pale intensity, garnet-brown colour. The nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of grilled herbs, sweet tea leaves, earth, hints of cherry fruit. With more air, classic roses and tar, which then faded to reveal truffles after an hour plus. On the palate, dry, high acidity, resolved medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of earth, sweet tea leaves, slight red cherries, grilled herbs, and eventually truffles.

1971 Nebbiolo, 1971

Marchesi di Barolo
very damaged label was £89.00 - now £69.00

The Nebbiolo has a lovely earthy bouquet. The nose has cherries, dark cherries, tar and slight dried rose notes. Complex and layered with high acidity and medium tannins still present. Cherries on the palate too with a nice finish. Great food wine. Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavoured wines. The wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavours of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones as they age.

The finest Dolcetto wines come from grapes grown on soils rich with white marls, especially those found on the right bank of the River Tauro. Inferno, 1971

Enologica Valtelinese

Inferno is one of five viticultural sub-zones specifically identified as producing Valtellina wines of particularly high quality: the other four are Grumello, Sassella, Maroggia and Valgella. Inferno means 'hell' in Italian, and refers to the slopes between Sondrio town and the village of Tresivio. Although DOC laws do not explain the origins of this name, it has been suggested that in summer the slopes here get noticeably hotter than the rest of the valley. Just across Sondrio to the west is Sassella, the finest of the Valtellina sub-zones.
