Constantino Port, 1947
Vintage Port
The port house Sociedad do Vinhos Porto Constantino was founded in 1877 and was a independent producer until it was acquired by the reputable Ferreira group. The 1947 Constantino from the very good vintage is now a mature tawny colour. On the nose the bouquet is caramel and burnt sugar. The palate has a mature and generous taste with some sweetness left. Nice long finish. A beautiful mature port.

Massandra, 1947
Massandra Red Port Sothebys Massandra Collection (Includes Original Box as illustrated)
Sothebys Massandra Collection
The wineries in Massandra were built during the reign of Czar Nicholas II. During the process, wine caves were constructed beneath the city. This “personal wine cellar” of the Czar contained tens of thousands of bottles. These caves survived the Russian Revolution, both World Wars, the fall of Communism, and Yakov Smirnoff. In 1990, about 13,000 of these bottles – never before available in the West – were put to auction

Tokaji, 1947
Aszu Essencia (Half Litre, 50cl)
This 1947 Tokaji Aszu Essencia is a sweet wine of stunning concentration and complexity. A rich complex wine with incredibly deep concentration, bitter oranges, ginger, manuka honey aromas and flavours, but though super sweet it is perfectly balanced with succulent citrus acidity. Harmony, balance and depth, these are absolutely world class.
After the Essencia, the Aszú Essencia (often confounded with the Essencia) is the second highest quality level among Tokaj wines. Its preparation is the same as that for the Aszú, and it is produced only in excellent years. The quality level is not indicated anymore by the number of puttonyos. …

Croft Port, 1945
Vintage Port - Oporto Bottled
Level in neck | Bin soiled label
A much deeper colour than the ’42 as one would expect. Quite limpid for a 62-year old with a lovely, elegant nose of ginger, leather, figs, almond and black cherries in the background. Very refined with a sedate feel to it. The palate is just sublime with perfect acidity, rich and decadent for Croft and in a sense, riper than the ’35 thanks to the Indian summer? Powerful, spicy and almost decadent towards the finish with wild honey, heather, fig, raisin and liquorice. Very long – this ’45 flirts with perfection. A gorgeous ’45 port.
