Fonseca Port, 1955

Vintage Port (Unlabelled Half bottles - Branded Capsule )

The 1955 was the only year declared by Fonseca in the 50s. The year was marked by an excellent ripening season with hot weather in July and August meaning that the crop was perfectly mature towards the end of September. Most of the well known shippers declared 1955.

Tasting Note
Medium to deep red, with a remarkably youthful ruby edge. Incredible richness and almost young grapey fruit character. As it breathes it opens to reveal spicy mature dark fruit aromas. On the palate it fills the mouth with round, marzipan richness mixed with full chocolate flavour. It is big and fresh and wonderfully balanced with a finish that mixes bottle maturity with plenty of chocolatey fresh fruit.

Mackenzie Vintage Port, 1955

Vintage Port (imported by John Harvey and Son of Bristol)

A lovely vintage port still showing nicely.

Review:
Very dark for its age. 70% opacity. Coffee on the nose, perhaps café au lait. The palate is medium weight; green humbugs; menthol and liquorice.

Quinta do Noval Port, 1955

Sale

Vintage Port (unlabelled embossed capsules mid shoulder )

"Red mahogany in colour, 30% opaque. Gentle on the nose, with a pleasant and mildly fruity smell. Modest entry, with modest levels of fruit and a gentle acidic structure. Aeration brings out more fruit. Warm and pleasant afrertaste, full of orange peel and with a lingering finish. 86/100. Was significantly better a day later when it had put on substantial weight." 1954 Chateau d'Yquem

Sauternes 1er Grand Cru Classe

Yquem is without doubt, one of the world's finest wine producers, of whom Robert Parker comments: "There is no other wine in the world like it, and there is no other luxury wine that can possibly justify its price as much as Yquem. The remarkable amount of painstaking labor necessary to produce the nectar known as Yquem is almost impossible to comprehend."

Château d'Yquem 1954 is a classic. very elegant with aromas of sherry, brown sugar and caramel and a taste of hazelnuts. Voluminous and deep.

Reviews.
"A delicate Yquem .. with bitter- and mandarin orange and lemon notes. Of medium body, with a nicely rounded palate and a good finish.
