D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1912
Verdelho Madeira
*** 94 points Cellar Tracker ***
Dark, almost coffee-like in color with a fading orange/rust rim. Wow... You can see the concentration as you swirl this in the glass; quite viscous. Very rich nose of caramel, nuts and autumnal spices. The nose was open for business and I spent quite some time taking in the bouquet before sampling it. There is weight here, but also lift. An orange peel liveliness perks up the palate on the back end. Superb length. A concentrated Verdelho (as D'Oliveira's tend to be) but this was still lively, precise and full of tension." cellar Tracker Review, 2012

Madeira, 1912
MBV - Boal - Bottled by Barbeito
This is a rare and very limited release of the 1912 Madeira from the family cellars. The bottles are in perfect condition. There is something ethereal about tasting such a rare vintage. The 1912 Boal is very dry as one would expect from this style of Madeira. There is a huge amount happening on the complexity front with some bitter nut skin notes with dried flowers and citrus pith. Although quite dry, this does not come across as too severe. An electric wine that is astonishingly refreshing. Massive finish that goes on and on.

Niepoort Port, 1912
Colheita Port
Reviews
"This brings back a fond memory of a long lost friend, Paul Napolitano from NY. He once opened this identical Port for me years ago at his home and at the time, it was the finest Colheita I had experienced, as well as the oldest. This one was bottled in 1976 or 1977. A piece is torn off the label and makes it impossible to be certain. Dark coffee color with a greenish edge. Is this Madeira? A nose of bouillon cube, scents of sea breeze and toffee, reminiscent of a Malvasia and the richness and supple spine live up to that mindset. The palate is packed with copious caramel and fig flavors along with prunes and toffee intricately woven into a neat little package. …

Sandeman Port, 1911
Vintage Port
A very rare magnum (or larger) bottle produced to celebrate the Coronation of King George V in 1911.
This bottle is an enigma to us as it was acquired from a Porto family associated with the producer. The bottle is a least a Magnum and the bottle shape and construction consitent with the vintage - Believed to have been recorked and rewaxed by Sandeman - embossed capsule Sandeman 1911. No identification on the cork (which is not unusual as Sogrape tend to recork their historic bottles every 20-30 years).

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1908
Boal
*** 94 Points Robert Parker ***
"The 1908 Boal Reserva from D’Oliveiras is an unctuous, full-bodied wine loaded with dark maple syrup, tar, leather, licorice and sweet baking spices. There is superb density here and the wine shows terrific length in an intense style. The finish is long, bright and sweet." The Wine Advocate
Madeira is made on the volcanic island of the same name, situated in the Atlantic ocean some 400 miles off the North African coast. This sub-tropical island was discovered in 1419 by the Portuguese. Madeira is the Portuguese word for wood or timber.
This sweet, amber-tinged Madeira, has keen acidity and a long and mellow finish, with a certain delicacy. …
