1980 D' Oliveiras Madeira, 1980

Boal Madeira

Madeira is a complex, interesting wine and is made in virtually every vintage. Due to the unique estufagem aging process Madeira is one of the longest-lived wines and also improves for days after opening, but will keep, once opened, for a month and more in a decanter.

Medium orange amber color with 1 millimeter clear meniscus; appealing, light coffee, almond, reminiscent of Moroccan bastilla on the nose with a hint of passion fruit; tight, silky textured, tasty, balanced, rounded, tart orange, tart passion fruit palate with a vague sense of light salt; long finish.

Blandys Madeira, 1980

Terrantez Madeira 37.5cl HALF BOTTLE
Includes Own Box

Blandy’s Terrantez 1980

Review bySarah Ahmed "The Wine Detective". "I’m a huge Terrantez fan and this one ticks all the right boxes. Smooth on the nose with a smooze of light caramel and sweet café crème. A lick of tobacco herbality – greener – lends appetising lift. The saliva glands are at work already! And so it is in the mouth – almost creamy on entry, yet penetrating too thanks to its lively, very persistent backbone of acidity. Delicate staccato spices and a lick of toffee apple seduce. That bottled electricity, v.a. accelerant fires up a super long, reverberating finish, its delicious woody, mellow timbre deftly leavened by that light, herbal riff.

Chateau Musar, 1978

Bekaar Valley, Gaston Hochar

The 1978 Musar is a blend of Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Carignan from this well-known and highly regarded Lebanese winery.

"A delicate nose showed perfume and black currants. It was certainly in tune with very nice fruit and good acidity. A beautiful, mature Claret that fell short of classic. Harmonious " Cellar Tracker Review Average 91 Points,

Chateau Musar is often referred to as the Lafite of the Lebanon. Wine maker Gaston Hochar defied the odds producing a string of great wines during the Lebanon War. Musar has assumed legendary status. Complex, long-lived and endlessly varied, in some vintages it seems more like a Burgundy, in others a Bordeaux, in still others a Hermitage.

Bordeaux, 1977

Schroder & Constans

Bordeaux, in the south-west of France, needs little introduction to anyone with an interest in wine. One of the world's most prolific wine regions, it also manages to rank among the most famous and prestigious. The secrets of Bordeaux's wine success (other than magical Bordeaux Blend) are its three trump cards: diversity, quality and quantity. The majority of Bordeaux wines are the dry, medium-bodied reds that made the region famous.

Blandys Madeira, 1976

Terrantez Madeira

***2012 - Gold Medal - Decanter World Wine Awards***

***2010 - Gold Medal - IWSC***

Dark, touched with mahogany colour. Delicate, exotic spices, lots of depth and lots of chocolate and rum and raising fudge, but it has that delicate freshness, hints of flowers and something light and ethereal too. Massively spicy palate, has the roasted spices, roasted plum and wonderful acidity, the tongue absolutely dancing on a knife edge of sweet and savoury/acid freshness, long, with tobacco and caraway, long and so brilliantly balanced. 96/100.

Cellarage & Storage
This wine should be stored upright in a dark room with constant temperature, ideally no higher than 16ºC.

Vintage Sercial Madeira (Includes gift box as illustrated)

***Wine & Spirits Magazine – February 2016 edition (“Year's Best Madeira”) – 95 Points***

***Wine Spectator Magazine – February 2016 edition – 95 Points***

The 1975 Sercial, which was bottled in October 2015, has a mellow bouquet with hints of toffee apple, sea spray and hazelnut. It is very focused and refined, nothing too showy here. The palate is fresh and citric on the entry: sour lemon mingling with dried honey, orange zest, walnut and a touch of tobacco. There is appreciable weight in the mouth, refreshing as Sercial can often be, with a focused, marine-influenced finish.

Janneau, 1975

Armagnac 1975 Vintage (Includes presentation box as shown)

The great vintages or millésimés of Janneau are the expression of a single year, most commonly of a single cask. Produced exclusively with the single distillation process, they are the quintessence of this precious distillate aged over the years. Each vintage expresses its unique character. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a sharp contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish.

Chateau La Mission Haut Brion, 1974

Pessac-Léognan

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Outer quote mark A fascinating aspect of vertical tastings is that there are always surprises – both good and bad. Because the vintage was plagued by rot, the inability of many grapes to reach full maturity, and frightful acid as well as rustic tannin levels, there were not many successful wines in 1974, but I always thought La Mission-Haut-Brion was one of them. It has aged remarkably well, and while it will not make anyone go bonkers over its quality, it is a very good wine. The color is a dark garnet with some amber at the edge. Interesting aromatics offer up an array of scents, including cedar, seaweed, pepper, roasted meats, smoked herbs, charcoal and some murky plum and currant fruit.

Amarone della Valpolicella, 1973

Giacomo Montresor

This wine is made from grapes harvested in various vineyards located on hills in the Valpolicella zone (Mezzane and Tregnago hills). Different sources and different grape varieties are important to obtain well-balanced wines with the fine structure that only a few single areas in the Valpolicella zone can provide. Notes: Color: strong ruby red. Clear and transparent. Bouquet: notes of vanilla and ethereal airs depending on the period of aging in the barrel; notes of sweet fruits such as currants, blueberries, cherries depending on the varieties of grapes. Flavor: wine with a velvety, raisiny character combined with the structure and typical stylish bitterness to give it good balance.

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1973

Boal Madeira

Buals are a brilliant varietal of madeira that illustrates the tension between residual sweetness and bracing acidity and offers up a heady nose of candied ginger, orange, caramel, and coffee. That's just a hint of the nose. The seamless integration of depth, power, nuance and lyricism always astonishes me, even now. The mouth feel and finish is elegant viscosity and a flavor profile that continues to evolve in the glass. It has a long length and finish.
