Taylor's Port, 1970

Vintage Port

Taylor's 1970 Vintage Port reviews.

99 points Wine Enthusiast
This wine's dark garnet color with minimal bricking suggests a relatively youthful wine and this certainly could age longer, although it's also delicious now. Wonderfully complex floral and herbal scents easily move into deep, rich flavors of chocolate and cherries, sprinkled with a healthy dose of Douro minerality and spice. Drink or hold. (JC) (2/2007)

98 points Vinous
The 1970 Taylor's Vintage Port has a tight nose, youthful with notes of liquorice, raisin, boot-polish and lemongrass. It is well defined and displays a little more intensity than the 1963.

Palmer Port, 1969

50 Year Old Single Harvest Tawny Port
Special Offer | Was £169 | Now £149 Last Few | Maximum 2 bottles per customer

*** 50cl Bottle ***

The 1969 Palmer Colheita Port has been a phenomenal bestseller for VWP. We have persuaded Palmer to make one final small batch which has just arrived. This will be the last batch ever made as stocks will then be exhausted.

Tasting Notes: The 1969 Palmer has a deep mahogany colour with olive highlights on the rim highlighting that this is a wine of great age. On the nose it has a very fine, elegant aroma of honey, caramel and butterscotch infused with a spicy redolence of black pepper and cinnamon. There are layers of complexity here with wild herbs and mint. The palate is perfectly balanced with a fresh acidity and sweetness.

Margaux 1er Grand Cru Classe
Level upper shoulder, label slightly glue stained

The 1969 Chateau Margaux has been fully mature for more than two decades. It is medium ruby with some amber/orange colour at the edges, possessing a light-intensity, fragrant bouquet suggestive of berry fruit and oak. On the palate, the flavours reveal adequate fruit and concentration, but the acidity is sharp in the finish.

Dolcetto, 1969

New

Luigi Bosca

A 1969 vintage Italian wine from Dolcetto. A native black grape variety of Northern Italy grown almost exclusively in the provinces of Cuneo and Alessandria in Piedmont. It is relatively easy to cultivate, although it is susceptible to fungal diseases. It ripens before Barbera and Nebbiolo and is often grown in high north-facing sites which would be unsuitable for Nebbiolo. The finest Dolcetto wines come from grapes grown on soils rich with white marls, especially those found on the right bank of the River Tauro. The wines generally are low in tannins and acidity and are usually fruity and fragrant, often with hints of almonds.

Chateau Latour, 1967

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe - Level base of in neck

Reviews
Magnum . For me, the star of the evening. So complete, so much at the height of its powers, so dense yet fresh.I couldn't help thinking of that ad for menthol cigarettes - 'pure as mountain stream' was the slogan, wasn't it? Sweet and richly flattering without being remotely heavy. It's possible that in bottle sizes this wine is much more developed. Jancis Robinson

"Unquestionably the best wine produced in the Medoc in 1967, the Latour has dark ruby color with some browning at the edges, a medium- to full-bodied feel, plenty of black currant fruit, and some light, soft tannins still present.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1967

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe (MID shoulder)
Special Offer | Was £295 | Now £190

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, one of the most famous wines in the world! A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Appropriately, the bottles for each vintage, of this first-growth Bordeaux, have been adorned by labels created by the world's great artists since 1945. The 1967 is a collectors item.

The 1967 Mouton has on the nose "Plum, Wild Berry, Leather, Library Books and Spice. Palate: Very nice density for its age with an elegant approach. Very silky and well resolved palate that offered fading fruit of black cherry and plum with nice but muted secondary notes of leather, tobacco and some sweet herbs.

Giovanni Scanavino
Clearance | LAST ONE | Was £59 | Now £25

Barbera is a wine of prestige, rich colors that refer generally to the ruby purple, just what clothes cardinals; the bouquet is ample and composite, with fruity notes of blackberry, cherry, strawberry and red fruit jam and spicy aromas reminiscent of cinnamon, vanilla, green pepper.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1964

Pauillac Premiere Grand Cru Classe (Henry Moore label)

- From magnum: Surprisingly good as I was not expecting much based on drinking other disappointing 1964 Bordeaux over the years. However, HS fill with pretty good cork was in beautiful shape. Color was brick red and showed nice tart cherries and fresh earthy aromas. The flavor profile showed reasonable concentration and while a bit earthy and a tad acidic, was full of dried red fruits and wonderful spices. While tannins were fully resolved the acid kept this reasonably fresh and inviting. A nice long rustic earthy finish kept me coming back for more.

Chateauneuf du Pape, 1964

L. Bernard

The red wines of Chateauneuf-du-Pape blossom and reach their prime between their third and fifth year, but their potential for aging is over ten years and more according to the vintage and storage conditions. Their color changes from intense garnet-purple in the early years to ruby after some cellaring. These wines are structured, with powerful and complex aromas of ripe fruit, mushrooms, truffles, underbrush, spicy notes, and wild animals

Cockburn Port, 1963

Vintage Port

"Perfectly integrated and showing cherry, raspberry, baker's spices and hints of fig on the nose and palate. With air the fruit became more plummy in character and picked up more complex dried fruit notes. It's sweet, but not Graham's or Fonseca sweet and there's actually some nice acidity to the wine that keeps it fresh. Seamless with the alcohol sewn into the fabric of the wine nicely." Cellar Tracker 2012

'Bright ruby red. Full rich red chocolate spicy aroma. Ripe rich round slightly hot fruit on the palate'. Cellar Tracker tasted 2005.

1962 Chateau Gillette

Sauternes

***90 Points- Robert Parker***

The 1962 offers a very complex, honeyed nose filled with decadent apricot and peach scents that can come from heavily botrytised fruit. Very full bodied, with good acidity and opulent, rich creme brulee flavors, this luscious, full-throttle Sauternes should continue to drink well for at least another 15-20 years or more.

1949 Cantine Antonio Ferrari, 1949

Il 49 di Antonio Ferrari Special offer was £195 | Now only £139

The Il Barone ‘49 shows a deep garnet colour. For something so old it is still fresh with a touch of oxidation on notes of black cherries, chocolate and espresso infused with sweet spices. The wine has a long finish. This is a wine from the 1949 wine harvest. Fermentation was arrested before complete leaving a high residual sugar content which has preserved the wine. The wine then went into large old Slovenian casks for ten years and then stored in tanks where it has remained until bottling this year. Antonio Ferrari was a wine merchant and negociant in Piedmont who in the mid-20th century developed an interest in the grapes of Puglia.
