Chateau Pontet Canet, 1966
Pauillac, 5th Growth Classification
The Pontet Canet has a good, dark ruby colour. The bouquet of wood and ripe plums is enjoyable, and not complex. In the mouth, the wine has plump, chunky, fruity flavours of good intensity.

Bordeaux, 1965
De Pinos
Bordeaux, in the south-west of France, needs little introduction to anyone with an interest in wine. One of the world's most prolific wine regions, it also manages to rank among the most famous and prestigious. The secrets of Bordeaux's wine success (other than magical Bordeaux Blend) are its three trump cards: diversity, quality and quantity. The majority of Bordeaux wines are the dry, medium-bodied reds that made the region famous.

Chateau Malescot St-Exupery, 1965
Margaux 3me Cru Classe
Stored in a private cellar since original purchase, these are in great condition. Light garnet with some amber at the edge, the 1965 Malescot is very mature. Vanilla, oak, truffles and farmyard with a little spice and acidity. A few unresolved tannins. It remains a bit chunky but is still alive.

Monbazillac, 1965
La Peyriere
Monbazillac is an AOC appellation for sweet wines made in an area in the wider region of Bergerac, in South western France. While not as famous as their western neighbours from Sauternes, Monbazillac wines are some of the most well-known sweet white wines produced in France, from botrytis-affected Muscadelle, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Tasting notes: Nice and clean bouquet, modest richness, gravel and liquorice, aromatic, sufficient acidity and length.

Chateau Calon Segur, 1964
3ème Cru Classé Saint Estèphe
The 1964 Calon Segur has a mature mahogany hue with tawny rim, the nose is fully mature with aromas of Chinese 5-spice, molasses, mint and cedar, lacking the clarity of a great ’61. The palate is medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and fine, sturdy tannins, still earthy but dominated by decayed, mushroom fruit and sous-bois on the finish. Still utterly enjoyable, but beginning to show its age. Drink now.

Chateau Duhart Milon, 1964
Pauillac, 4th Growth classification
The 1964 Chateau Duhart Milon shows an earthy nose of faint old dried cassis, earth, forest floor, wet dirt, coffee grounds and hint of tobacco. It should display the traits of a classic old left bank Bordeaux.

Chateau Gruaud Larose, 1964
St Julien 2nd Growth Classification,
Cellar Tracker review. Upon holding the bottle up to the light, the clarity was stunning. Beautiful ripe nose, well balanced fruit oak and acidity with a finish that lingered for 30-40 seconds. A truly great bottle with enough structure to age another 5-10 years. Cellar Tracker posting, Tasted 2006.
Drink now to 2012

Chateau Haut Brion, 1964
Pessac Leognan 1er Grand Cru Classe
Excellent level | Very damaged label, Vintage Identified from cork - cut capsule
notes on 1964 Haut Brion
"... deep garnet core with a tawny rim. A light nose, touches of smoked wood, cedar, pain grille and soot. Nice definition but the fruit is all but dispensed with. The palate is medium-bodied with sharp acidity, nice tautness here, good depth but not complex. Fine tannins, dusty black fruit with hints of black olive towards the tobacco-tinged finish, that seems just a little sugary (chaptalized?) Certainly not a bad wine for the vintage more renowned on the Right Bank and it has held up well. Graceful and undemanding. Drink now. Tasted June 2009.

Reviews:
"This is an utterly delicious wine! A languid, almost sedate bouquet whose charms creep up on you, with macerated black cherries, clear honey, blackcurrant wine gums, glycerol and a touch of rose petal, strafed with breathtaking delineation, the palate is full-bodied, exuding a sense of controlled opulence. Cashmere tannins, quite glossy and plush with immense purity and class. Rounded towards the finish with sweet black cherries mixed with summer fruits, great tension and poise. I doubt I will ever encounter a finer example of this wine. …

Bordeaux, 1962
Leoville Las Cases
Léoville Las Cases is the most legendary wine of Saint-Julien: on a quality par with the Médoc's first growths, without the hefty price premium to match. It is a prime example of a Bordeaux 'super-second' - a second growth operating at a first growth level. Léoville Las Cases is also one of the largest, oldest and most picturesque of the Médoc's classified Bordeaux growths. Grapes are fermented at lower than average temperatures, which is partially responsible for the wines displaying some of the most exotic aromas and aromatic richness in the Médoc.

Chateau Durfort Vivens, 1962
Margaux 2nd Growth Classification
Medium garnet in colour with yellowing and bricking towards the rim. This is very much alive. Wet leaves, forest floor, sweet tobacco, raspberry, red cherry, vanilla, and white flowers on the nose. There is a lot of sweetly perfumed classic Margaux aromatics. Secondary and tertiary notes dominate but there is still a lot of fruit left here leading to a nice long finish.

One of the greatest vintages of the post-war period. This exceptional vintage has the peculiarity of producing a tiny crop of exceptional quality. Clean, brilliant deep ruby-brick with orange rim. Initial nose showed pleasant, complex cedar, plum, violets and leather, with addition of slight cigar box. palate concurrently shows more plummy fruit. The wine is full-bodied, with ample supple tannins and an extremely long …
