Warre's Vintage Port, 1994

Vintage Port - Magnum bottle 150cl

An outstanding port scoring 94 points (Robert Parker) "One of the finest Warres I have ever tasted, this opaque purple-coloured wine is made in a drier style (a la Dow), yet it is expressive, extremely full-bodied, with superb richness, purity, and well-integrated alcohol and tannin. It possesses a great mid-palate as well as impressive length. Tasters should take note of the wealth of peppery, liquorice-scented and flavoured raspberry and blackcurrant fruit. Look for it to be ready to drink in 10-12 years, and keep for 30+. This is a profound example of Warre vintage port." Parker Wine Advocate

Chateau Latour, 1993

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

A terrific wine for the vintage, Latour's 1993 reveals an opaque purple color, a backward, cedar, black walnut, cassis, and earth-scented nose, medium to full body, gorgeously rich, concentrated fruit, moderately high tannin (but no astringency), and a sweet, long, powerful finish. The wine does not possess any of the vegetal, green pepper characteristics of the vintage, nor any hint of hollowness or harshness. This wine may prove to merit an even higher rating. Is this vintage the modern day clone of the 1967 and 1971?

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1993

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe level in neck, nick on label

*** 90 Points - Robert Parker ***
Reviews: " The 1993 is a beautifully made wine which could be considered a sleeper of the vintage. The wine boasts a dark purple color, followed by a sweet, pain grillee, roasted nut, and cassis-scented bouquet that is just beginning to open. In the mouth, the wine may not possess the body and volume of a vintage such as 1990 or 1989, but there is more richness of fruit, a sweet, ripe, pureness to the wine, as well as medium body and outstanding balance. This moderately tannic, well-focused, surprisingly rich 1993 is capable of 15-20 years of evolution. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2015.

Chateau Yquem, 1993

Sauternes 1er Cru Classe

A beautiful, slightly golden yellow, this wine is still very young to express much on the initial nose. After swirling, and even more so after a few minutes in the glass, there come scents of citrus, raisins and also more floral aromas with delicate lime flower. These are still early days and time is needed for these impressions to develop. In the mouth the great quality and potential are obvious. The attack is round, and the volume quickly fills the whole mouth. What sweetness and what pleasure - with just enough acidity. Flavours of mandarin, apricot, fruit paste, then the vanillary, lightly grilled notes associated with the long élevage in barrel.

Chateau Leoville Barton, 1992

St Julien 2eme Cru Classe

Leoville-Barton might stand out among the classified estates of Bordeaux for lacking its own chateau, but it's what goes into the wine, not where it's made that really matters. Vinification actually takes place at Château Langoa-Barton, which shares the same ownership, but the estate's vineyards sit on 47 hectares of land between the Gironde and the huge expanse of vineyards belonging to Chateau Talbot. Expect a rich, densely concentrated wine with compelling fruit complexity, enticing inner-mouth perfume and suave tannins.

Dom Perignon, 1992

Rose Champagne presented in Gift Box

Moet & Chandon is one of Champagne's giants when it comes to the sheer number of bottles that emerge from its cellars each year. The house's top wine Dom Perignon is quite possibly the most iconic wine in Champagne and perhaps the world. Production numbers are always kept close to the vest but that notwithstanding it is impossible to ignore the exceptional quality that the best vintages offer.

Dow's Port, 1992

Quinta do Bonfim

(a very rare bottle from the 1992 vintage)

*** 93 Points - Robert Parker ***

Reviews

Robert Parker 93 points
“Dow's 1992 Quinta do Bomfim is an expressive, fragrant, up-front style of port with a pungent, peppery, floral, cassis-scented nose, full-bodied, rich, chewy, ripe flavors, light tannin, and sensational extract and length. The wine explodes on the back of the palate, announcing its considerable richness and intensity. This port should drink well young, and last for 30 years.”
Wine Spectator 92 points.
"Much better than from barrel. Perhaps better than Dow's blended 1991 vintage Port.

Taylor's Port, 1992

Quinta De Vargellas Vintage Port (Bin Soiled labels)

*** 100 Points - Robert Parker ***
***19/20 Jancis Robinson***

"Taylor's 1992 Vintage Port is unquestionably the greatest young port I have ever tasted. It represents the essence of what vintage port can achieve. The color is an opaque black/purple, and the nose offers up fabulously intense aromas of minerals, cassis, blackberries, licorice, and spices, as well as extraordinary purity and penetration. Yet this is still an unformed and infantile wine. If Chateau Latour made a late-harvest Cabernet Sauvignon, I suspect it might smell like this. In the mouth, the wine is out of this world, displaying layer upon layer of concentrated black fruits backed by well-integrated tannin and structure.

Gould Campbell Vintage Port, 1991

Vintage Port

Reviews
"1991 ~ Gould Campbell ~ Vintage Port – Dark magenta color that is just short of opaque. A spicy profile of black pepper, licorice, cedar, mint, raspberry and Raisinettes. Rich, concentrated, but silky smooth textured crushed red berry fruit, framed by cedar and black pepper. This GC delivers a soft and complex, well-defined core, snappy acidity and firm chewy tannins that forebode a long upside from here. One of the longest finishes of any Vintage Port we tasted, this is a gorgeous young Gould and requires either a long decant for current consumption, or it will reward patience if cellared.

Chateau Cos d'Estournel, 1990

St Estephe, 2me Cru Classe

In contrast to the 1989, the 1990 is a spectacular wine, and, along with the 1986, 1982, and 1953, one of the four finest Cos d'Estournels made in the post-World War II era. Bruno Prats believes it is the finest wine he has ever made. In the most recent tasting, the 1990 was even better than in the past, charming me as well as other tasters with its flashy display of opulent Merlot (about 40% of the blend) mixed with ripe Cabernet Sauvignon. It was one of the more forward 1990s in the tasting, which no doubt accounted for its precocious showing. This super-concentrated wine possesses a roasted herb, sweet, jammy black fruit-scented nose, with noteworthy opulence and succulence.

Villages, Bergeron

These juicy, light bodied wines are based overwhelmingly on the Gamay grape variety and they display varietal characters of red fruit and spice.

Beaujolais Villages is the appellation for red, white and rosé wines from a zone made up of 38 villages in the north of Beaujolais, France. The hilly terrain and granite soil here is considered superior to that of the flatter lands in the south of Beaujolais. As a result, Beaujolais Villages wines are considered to be of a higher quality than those of the straight Beaujolais appellation.

Cabernet Sauvignon, 1989

New

Cercle d'Or

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every wine-growing country in the world. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedar wood.

Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste, 1989

Pauillac 5th Growth Classification

*** 90 Points - Robert Parker ***

"When I first tasted the 1989 Grand-Puy-Lacoste in this blind tasting I thought it possessed a Graves-like tobacco/mineral character. In contrast to the blockbuster, full-blown, massive wines produced by this estate in 1990 and 1982, the medium-weight 1989 is elegant, spicy, evolved, and already revealing plenty of cedar and cassis fruit. A delicious, generously-endowed, low acid wine, it will offer mature drinking now and over the next 12-15 years." Robert Parker

Fracia, 1989

Nino Negri

This red wine is deep crimson in colour, and has a rich bouquet of dried cherries, pencil shavings, tar and roses – the tell-tale sign of a wine made from Nebbiolo. As might be expected for a mountain-grown wine made from Nebbiolo, it is light-bodied and laced with grippy tannins. Although generally weightier and more concentrated than standard Rosso di Valtellina wines, they are almost always lighter in both body and power than the most famous of all Nebbiolo-based wines, Barolo and Barbaresco.
