Chateau Latour, 1952

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe -
Mid shoulder level, lightly bin-soiled label

"Tasted at the Ledbury 1950/1952 dinner. Although this vintage of Latour does not have a great reputation, I actually found a lot to admire here. It has an attractive bouquet, dusty black fruits at first but clearing with aeration to reveal a most floral aromatic profile: rose petals in an old antique vase, subtle wild mint notes and a touch of peppermint. The palate is medium-bodied with impressive delineation considering its age: notes of crushed strawberry, cedar, orange rind and tobacco. As with most wines from this vintage, it is austere on the finish, but this Latour has a femininity rarely found at this First Growth estate.

Fonseca Port, 1948

Vintage Port (high shoulder , unlabelled, embossed capsule)

1948 Fonseca Vintage Port – James Suckling had bestowed 100 points on this VP. Tawny-centered colour with a light yellowish edge, with surprisingly light colour overall, not what I am used to. In contrast to the massive masculine style of the Taylor, this showed the smooth elegance and feminine style of a great well-aged vintage Port. It exhibits cherry and sweet cranberry fruit, along with an incredibly complex and everlasting finish.

Butler Nephew Vintage Port, 1947

Vintage Port

Review on cellar Tracker.
"I loved the 1947 Butler Nephew & Co Vintage Port. It had a floral, spicy nose with pure clean spirit. It tasted of chocolate and cherries and was full and plump. Balance was superb and it was so fresh and clean on the finish."

Sherry, 1946

Bodegas Toro Albaia Don PX Convento Seleccion, Montilla
In own case with tasting vial.

100 Points - Wine advocate
Reviews:
The 1946 Don PX Convento Seleccion produced with Pedro Ximenez grapes dehydrated under the sun at the time of the Second World War, was only bottled in September 2011. This is an extreme wine, my first descriptor was ultra-mega-super concentrated. It is unbelievably powerful, both in the nose and the palate, full of umami, with sweet cinnamon, Christmas cake, camphor, petrol, lemongrass, Belgian chocolate and butter. Incredibly complex and rich, sweet, balanced and smooth in the palate, it is both very sweet and somehow salty, and with time it develops a black olive note.

The 1945 Sandeman vintage. The '45 has a a tawny-ruby colour; raisined red fruit - looks longer than its age. On the palate there is some sweetness, surprisingly good acidity, refreshing, fruit that is now figs. Certainly mature - great finish. Tasted at The Don London Sandeman V20 tasting (VWP note)

Butler Nephew Vintage Port, 1942

Vintage Port

A very rare bottle of Butler Nephew 1942. This historic house was founded in 1829 and had an excellent reputation for producing fine vintage ports until it was acquired and integrated into the Sandeman port house. The 1942 Butler Nephew has a mature tawny colour. The nose is still complex and enjoyable with herbal notes and molasses. The port is medium body on the palate with a medium plus finish - a very attractive and enjoyable old port.

Graham's Port, 1942

Vintage Port (in neck good label)

Declared by some shippers, despite the war, and in some cases declared and bottled in 1945 to celebrate Victory. First Vintage to be bottled exclusively in Portugal, rather than shipped in cask as was customary.

Little known, and production was small due to continued post-war restrictions, but well-cellared wines are still a pleasure.

James Suckling

Vintage Port (book, Suckling, 1990)

This is a silky, classy, elegant, mature Vintage Port with a complex character of fruit on the nose and palate. Medium red with a lighter edge, delicate fresh raspberry and currant aromas, medium-bodied, with silky, elegant fruit flavours, medium tannins and a very sweet finish.

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1899

Terrantez Madeira

Dark, touched with mahogany colour. Delicate, exotic spices, lots of depth and lots of chocolate and rum and raising fudge, but it has that delicate freshness, hints of flowers and something light and ethereal too. Massively spicy palate, has the roasted spices, roasted plum and wonderful acidity, the tongue absolutely dancing on a knife edge of sweet and savoury/acid freshness, long, with tobacco and caraway, long and so brilliantly balanced.

Taylor's Port, 1896

Taylors Single Harvest Port

We are delighted to offer you Taylor’s extremely rare bottling of the magnificent 1896 Single Harvest Port.

Taylor’s has an extensive and enviable library of very old Ports which represent the cream of their aged reserves and on very rare occasions these wines have been released in extremely limited quantities. 1896 was one of the finest vintages of the 19th century and with very slow and gentle ageing in hand crafted oak casks, this wine has attained a magical quality, creating ports of extreme aromatic complexity with delightfully mellow structures.

Adrian Bridge, Taylor’s Managing Director commented: “The launch of a wine as old, valuable and unique as this one occurs only a handful of times in a generation.
