Chateauneuf du Pape, 2008

Croix de Bois, Chapoutier

93 points Wine Spectator
This has a solid core of crushed blackberry and mulled plum fruit, supported by well-embedded acidity. Pastis, violet and black tea notes weave through on the finish, where the plum fruit echoes nicely. (JM) (11/2010)

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Dark red. A perfumed nose offers raspberry, strawberry preserves, herbs, anise and dried rose. Silky and sweet in the mouth, offering lively red and dark berry flavors. Finishes juicy and fresh, with very good persistence and a touch of cinnamon. (JR)(1/2011)

Graham's Port, 2008

Sale

Quinta dos Malvedos

Deep, dark red colour with just a hint of fading along the edge. Gorgeous black cherry and plum aromas, with a wonderful fresh fruit fragrance and distinct notes of eucalyptus and hints of mint and liquorice. Luscious and opulent flavours coat the palate with full, rich blackberry fruit, intense and compact. A supple, muscular wine very pleasurable to drink now but with ample further ageing potential. Chateauneuf du Pape, 2007

Cuvée du Vatican Reserve Sixtine
95 Points Jeb Dunnuck eRobert Parker

Reviews:
I loved the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Réserve Sixtine, and this is probably the finest example of this cuvee since the 2003. Made from 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and the rest Mourvèdre, destemmed and aged in a mix of foudre, old barrels and small amounts of new barrels, it offers terrific purity in its black raspberry and cassis fruits, melted licorice and cured meat aromas and flavors. With full-bodied richness, beautiful mid-palate density and no hard edges, it’s a joy to drink today but will certainly keep for another decade or more.

2005 Wine Gift, Chateau Batailley and Messias Vintage Port Gift Set, 2005

2x 75cl bottles - (Offer includes a double Gift Box with Wine Accessories as pictured)

REVIEWS:
***91 Points-Robert Parker***

One of the finest examples I have ever tasted of Batailley (which is difficult to evaluate young as it is made in such a tannic, primordial style), the 2005 reveals both charm and power. It possesses a deep ruby/purple hue along with powerful creme de cassis notes intermixed with cedar, incense, and spicy oak. Fleshy and full-bodied with abundant power as well as sweet tannin, and present but unobtrusive acidity, this beauty will benefit from 5-6 years of bottle age, and should keep for 25+.

Chateauneuf du Pape, 1999

Domaine Vieux Telegraphe La Crau

The 1999 Vieux Telegraphe Rouge invariably has a beautiful colour, an earthy nose, but one of freshness, lively and promising. One finds freshness in the mouth, nervy and lightly mentholated. At the same time, it is suave and rich on the finish. The tannins are supple and ripe with no dryness. The end of the tasting is very clean and woody, rich with a light liquorice taste.

With its structure and complexity this red wine will go well with game, lamb or risotto with wild mushrooms cooked in a red wine sauce.

Sanford Pinot Noir, 1999

Pinot Noir, Rita Hills, Santa Barbara

Garnet red colour bricking at the edges. Garnet-brick red. Jasmine tea and scorched earth on the nose. Tart cranberry and bitter orange zest flavours. Finishes a bit hot. Nice silky texture and dusty tannins. Now fully mature, this wine would not benefit from further ageing.

Chateau Latour, 1997

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

*** 90 Points Robert Parker ***

"The 1997 Latour will be a surprisingly fine wine, as well as one of the longest lived offerings of the vintage. It possesses lots of tannin and depth, along with medium to full body, and a textured, multidimensional personality. Sweet, jammy fruit is intertwined with dried herbs, coffee, and earth in this saturated ruby/purple-colored wine. The finish lasts for 20 seconds, a positive sign for a 1997. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2018." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 1999

Chateauneuf du Pape, 1994

Chateau de Beaucastel Pierre Perrin

Château de Beaucastel has long been considered one of the great wines of France. It is unanimously renowned for its balance, elegance and ageing potential. Beaucastel has an extraordinary terroir at the Northern end of the appellation with heavy exposure to the Mistral. All 13 varieties of the appellation have been organically grown here since the sixties.

1994 was a good year for Rhone Wines and the Beaucastel has striking colour. The nose is profound and sweet, with black truffle, under-wood, and earthy notes. The mouth is fruity, fleshy and round, with soft tannins. It can be drunk but will improve with time.

Marchesi Cristoforo Frascari

This aristocratic red has its vineyards situated in the Langhe, on the right-hand side of the Tanaro river and extending from the area north-east of Alba to the communes of Barbaresco, Neive and Treiso. The dominant variety grown is Nebbiolo, but Dolcetto and Barbera also play a part. Barolo, 1988

La Marenca - Gemma

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

Janneau, 1987

Armagnac 1987 Vintage (Includes presentation box as shown)

The great vintages or millésimés of Janneau are the expression of a single year, most commonly of a single cask. Produced exclusively with the single distillation process, they are the quintessence of this precious distillate aged over the years. Each vintage expresses its unique character. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a sharp contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish.

Nebbiolo, 1987

Sori del Poggio - Cortese

The Nebbiolo has a lovely earthy bouquet. The nose has cherries, dark cherries, tar and slight dried rose notes. Complex and layered. Nice acidity. Medium tannins still present. Cherries on the palate too. Nice finish. Great food wine. Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines. Though generally only medium-bodied, the wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavors of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones.

The 1985 Fonseca Vintage Port has a lovely nose of maturing port, finely styled and just screaming quality. The palate carries a svelte texture, with a creamy, flattering character. There is purity, balance, a clean, bright quality and despite this lots of appealing grip. This has great impact, and yet is so welcoming and alluring. Excellent wine, and a great example of the vintage. (November 2006).

Brick rim with a light brick red core. Initially the nose was fresh and very sweet. Then developing in the glass with notes of liquorice, caramel and increasing acidity, which eventually breaks down the nose. The palate is still surprisingly fresh. This must have been very attractive in the 1980's. Growing old gracefully and still drinking well.
