Taylor's Port, 2000

Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha

The Vinha Velha are five plots located in the heart of Quinta de Vargellas. The vines being between 80 and 120 years of age. Strict selection has led to a wine of stunning complexity, power and richness. This is one that will be at its peak 50 years hence. The palate is gloriously sweet and dense, with huge potential for the long term.

Reviews: "The Taylor Vargellas Vinha Velha 2000 has a more introverted than Taylor’s Vintage, an earthy bouquet with touches of orange essence developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good backbone, quite reserved and composed at the moment.

Blandys Madeira, 1999

Malmsey Colheita Madeira (H/Litre, 50cl) Includes gift box as illustrated

Blandy’s Malmsey 1999 vintage Madeira was aged for 16 years in seasoned American oak casks and as with all the family’s vintages, this wine started its ageing process in the warm high attic floors of the lodge in the centre of Funchal. Over the 16 years, the wine passed down from the warmer top floor of the Blandy’s Wine Lodges, the “Sotão de Amendoa” where it spent the first 5 years, to the second floor for 7 years and finally to the cooler first for the remaining 4 years. The art of finding the right balance between concentration and the freshness of the wine lies in the winemaker’s decision when to transfer the wine to the lower cooler north facing floors of the lodge.

Chateau Calon Segur, 1999

3ème Cru Classé Saint Estèphe

This supple 1999 vintage Bordeaux wine from Chateau Calon-Segur is an elegant, lighter-styled Calon-Segur, particularly when compared to the 2000. It exhibits an evolved colour, sweet cherry and dusty berry fruit, and hints of dried herbs. It is a spicy, cherry-flavoured effort with a style reminiscent of a Beaune premier cru. The blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc has resulted in a wine of elegance and finesse rather than one with a lot of stuffing and power.

Chateau Palmer, 1999

Margaux 3rd Growth Classification
Magnum 150cl

Review Scores
*** 95/100 (outstanding) - parker ***
*** 17.5+/20 - Jancis Robinson ***

Robert Parker writes of this wine... "The 1999 is the greatest Palmer made since 1961, 1966, 1970, 1983, and 1989. It is one of the superstars of the vintage. The wine is a blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot. It boasts a staggering bouquet of violets and other spring flowers intermixed with licorice, black currants, and subtle wood. Only 50% of the production made it into the grand vin. This is a multidimensional, compelling effort with both power and elegance, it offers sweet tannin along with flavors that caress the palate, and a 45-second finish.

The palate is balanced, fruity, slightly tannic which is refined over time to a soft and velvet taste.

Chianti Colli Senesi is perhaps Chianti's most significant subzone, located on the hills surrounding Siena in the southern part of the Chianti region. The title is used to cover Sangiovese-based wines from the less prestigious vineyards of the area. These wines can be forward and fruity while still exhibiting Chianti's characteristic rustic charm.
