Chateau d'Issan, 2000

Cantenac Margaux 3rd Growth Classification

An outstanding wine, scoring 93 pts, from a superb vintage. Robert Parker, renowned wine critic writes of this wine....."A suave, aristocratic, classic built on delicacy and finesse as opposed to power and blockbuster fruit, the 2000 requires introspection, but what one finds is extremely rewarding. This graceful, symmetrical, refined effort displays a dark ruby/purple colour in addition to a sweet perfume of white flowers intermixed with black currants, liquorice, and subtle new oak. Medium-bodied, with sweet but noticeable tannin, and a dense finish that builds gradually and persistently, it appears to be the finest d'Issan produced in over four decades.

Chateau Gloria, 2000

St Julien

The 2000 Chateau Gloria is generous and well-structured, these intense, complex wines are typical of the Saint Julien appellation. The result of traditional vinification, they have a strong, rich colour. On the palate, they are expressive, rounded and supple. They should be kept for a few years to express their full potential.

Château Gloria's plots were acquired by Henri Martin, mayor of Saint-Julien Beychevelle during the 20th century. This unavoidable figure of the Médoc (one of the founding members of the Commanderie du Bontemps) has raised this vintage to the level of excellent classified growths of the appellation.

Chateau Haut Batailley, 2000

Pauillac 5th Growth Classification

*** 90 points Robert Parker ***

Reviews
"AOne of the finest Haut-Batailleys ever made (it certainly rivals the 1996), this deep ruby/purple-colored wine is a beauty. Notes of raspberries, liquified minerals, cassis, and tobacco jump from the glass of this attractive, velvety-textured wine. Some tannin is there, but it is abundantly fruity, low in acidity, and is a quintessentially elegant style of Bordeaux. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2015." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate.

Chateau Palmer, 2000

Margaux 3rd Growth Classification

*** 96 points Robert Parker ***

Robert Parker writes of this wine... "This has turned out to be a prodigious Palmer. The saturated purple color offers up sexy, full-bodied, almost masculine notes of roasted meats, blackberries, and creme de cassis intermixed with notions of toast, smoke, and camphor. Only 50% of the production made it into the 2000, a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Merlot. The wine is opulent, rich, and full-bodied, with tannin that has become sweeter with age. Its best showing yet, most importantly, has been from bottle. This is a great Palmer that should rival the best of recent vintages, which have all been stunning, as this estate continues to go from strength to strength.

Chateau Troplong Mondot, 2000

St Emilion Grand Cru Classe
*** 96 Points Robert Parker ***

Troplong Mondot’s 2000 is extremely young with an unbelievable deep purple color, the 2000 Troplong Mondot has hardly budged since I tasted it in 2003. Two recent tastings confirmed that this is the greatest Troplong Mondot between their profound 1990 and more recent vintages such as 2005, 2008, and 2009. Copious chocolate, graphite, blackberry, blueberry, cassis, and ink characteristics are present in this full-bodied, powerful, massive St.-Emilion. While the tannins are noticeable, they are better integrated than they were seven years ago, and the fruit, extract, and richness clearly outweigh the wine’s structure.

Chateauneuf du Pape, 2000

Domaine du Caillou Vacheron Pouzin Non Filtre

Chateauneuf Domaine du Caillou dates back to at least the first part of the 20th century in the Southern Rhone Valley. However, the modern era for Clos du Caillou began when it was purchased in 1956 by the Pouzin family.

The domaine was managed by Claude Pouzin until 1995. At that point in time, Sylvie Pouzin, the daughter of Claude Pouzin and her husband, Jean-Denis Vacheron began to run the estate, taking Clos du Caillou in a new direction.

Croft Port, 2000

Vintage Port

Reviews: An outstanding port rating 90 points. "A striking, individualistic nose of spring flowers, blackberries, blueberries, and lead pencil shavings emerges from this saturated purple-coloured 2000. Evolved yet expansive, sweet, and generous, it admirably conceals moderately high tannins under a wealth of fruit and glycerin. The aromatic profile and attack merit a score in the mid-nineties, but the finish is short, thus lowering the overall rating. Quevedo

Colheita Port
93 Points - Robert Parker

The 2000 Quevedo colheita port is an amazing value/quality port from an exceptional vintage. With a bright tawny colour and vivid terracotta highlights this brilliant single harvest tawny continues to charm on the nose with ripe cherries and dried raspberries combined with subtle notes of almonds and little hints of caramel. On the palate it is fresh, rich and powerful with a long chocolate finish. This is a Colheita that will age well in bottle.

Pair this luscious sweet port with almond tarts or caramel and chocolate based desserts. Crème brûlée is a classic combination as is Stilton cheese.

Schioppetino, 2000

Le Vigne di Zamo

Schioppettino is a dark-skinned grape variety native to Friuli-Venezia Giulia in the far northeastern corner of Italy. Having declined in plantings massively in the late 19th and 20th Centuries, it was saved from extinction in the 1970s, and is now regaining the respect and recognition it once enjoyed.

Most Schioppettino wines are medium-bodied, deeply-colored, aromatic on the nose (violets and red berries) and spicy to the palate ("peppery" and "earthy" are oft-encountered descriptors). Schioppettino is most often produced as a dry red wine, but can also be made into sparkling spumante versions - a local specialty of Friuli.

Taittinger, 2000

Vintage Champagne Robert Rauschenberg design

In 1964, the 32nd Venice Biennale was the scene of a great furore. Robert Rauschenberg, a 39-year old American artist, was awarded the Grand Prize.

The contemporary art world knew that he, together with Jasper Johns, was the link which connected the abstract expressionism of Pollock and Kooning to the Pop Art of Warhol and Lichtenstein. His art, like some surrealists, was made from discarded items, the old-fashioned and the worn out. His strength lay in the fact that every piece which he collected and assembled was imbued with life to such a degree that he created space (a collage) or time (an assembly).

Reviews
A beautifully complex perfume of fresh tobacco as well as cigar smoke, sweet licorice, and black currants is followed by an elegant, pure, harmonious Margaux. While not a big wine, it is medium-bodied, intense, and moderately structured. It should improve in the bottle, and merit an outstanding score in 2-3 years. Wine Advocate.April, 2002
