Chateau Cheval Blanc, 1994
St Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classe
Robert Parker writes of this wine... "Dark ruby/purple-coloured, with a complex, spicy, tobacco, vanilla, blackcurrant, mineral, and floral-scented nose, the 1994 is a bigger, more structured wine than the 1993, its older sibling, but is it better? The wine finishes with mouthsearing tannin, which detracts from the otherwise impressive aromatics and sweet, medium-bodied, lush attack. As I have written many times in the past, Cheval Blanc has a tendency to fatten up, put on weight, and expand both aromatically and texturally with age, so perhaps this wine will move in that direction. If it does, my rating will appear unduly conservative. …

Chateau Grand Mayne, 1994
St Emilion Grand Cru Classe
One of the vintage's top performances. The wine's colour is black/purple and the nose offers up Wonderfully sweet scents of red and black fruits, violets, minerals, vanilla, and a subtle herbaceous note. With full body, outstanding concentration, low acidity, and a riveting, astringently tannic finish. This is a well-proportioned, rich yet elegant wine.

Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste, 1994
Pauillac 5th Growth Classification
*** 90 Points - Robert Parker ***
"Grand-Puy-Lacoste is the drinker's Pauillac. It is not an investment wine (having been largely forgotten by the trophy hunters and investors looking to make a quick buck), although certain vintages (1982 and 1990) have tripled in price. Grand-Puy-Lacoste, usually loaded with character and personality, has enjoyed three fine vintages in 1993-95, with each of these years under-priced for such quality. The 1994 has turned out to be an outstanding effort for this estate. The wine reveals even more flesh than it did prior to bottling, as well as the high tannin that marks many of this vintage's wines. …

Chateau Haut Brion, 1994
Pessac Leognan 1er Grand Cru Classe
*** 92 Points Robert Parker ***
Reviews
"This is one of the surprise sleeper wines of the vintage which has more successes than many people suspect in spite of all the rain. The tremendous drainage enjoyed by the Haut Brion vineyard worked in its favor during this wet September harvest. The color is deep plum/ruby with a bit of lightening at the edge. Notes of compost, truffle, earth, spice box, dried herbs, and licorice compete with sweet black cherry and currant fruit. The wine is medium-bodied, with a relatively plump, chewy feel to it. It is certainly one of the top half dozen or so wines of the vintage. …

Chateau Rauzan-Segla, 1994

The 1994 wine from Rauzan Segla is dominated by its tannin and structure. There is good weight, medium body, and an impression of ripeness and sweet fruit, but patience will most definitely be required.

Croft Port, 1994
Vintage Port
"The 1994 Croft exhibits an impressive dark ruby/purple color, and a developed, forward, more evolved style than expected. It is moderately sweet, full-bodied, expansive, pure, and rich, but made in an up-front, flattering style. Although outstanding, it is not one of the superstars of the vintage. It will keep for twenty years. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2020". 90 points. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate.

Quinta de la Rosa, 1994
Vintage Port
1994 was a great vintage for Port, with a slow and long ripening period to add a great deal of complexity to the wine. This example of vintage Port, from Qunita de la Rosa, is a wine of concentration and complexity but with great restraint as one can always expect from la Rosa. The wine is now entering its drinking "window" and will give great pleasure from now until 2030 at least.
The la Rosa 1994 Vintage Port is more delicate and subtle than say the muscular 1992, and though likely to last as long, will come forward for drinking sooner. It has intense colour and is a nicely elegant and complex wine which will cellar well. …

Quinta do Passadouro, 1994
Quinta do Passadouro, Vintage Port
In the nose a lot of alcohol. It has a powerful nose but it’s not very complex. Liquorice, dark fruit, dark chocolate. There is also an amaretto cookie element coming through which is quite nice.
Taste: A creamy velvet texture. At the start a lot of freshness which is followed up very quickly with a lot of alcohol that attacks the palate. Dried fruit, some liquorice, and a really nice acidity.

Ryst-Dupeyon Armagnac, 1994
Ryst Dupeyron Reserve Joseph Millesime vintage Armagnac
50cl bottle
The 1994 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.
The Maison Ryst-Dupeyon was founded by Joseph Dupeyron in 1905. …

Knipser - Pinot Rosè Brut Nature
The winery Knipser from Laumersheim in the Palatinate is an outstanding German winery. The critics of the Gault Millau count the Palatine Knipser with the highest rating of 5 stars even the world's top. Skeffington Port, 1994
Vintage Port
***91 Points- CellarTracker***
Fourth bottle from a half case purchased ten years ago and in fine fettle. Mature and drinking well now at 22 years of age, still vigorous and with gentle tertiary development in the form of some nutty warmth, ever so slightly stalky on the nose. Core of black cherries and dark chocolate on the palate, medium weight and intensity, light tannins, no excessive alcoholic heat, good length. A solid performance.

Taylor's Port, 1994
Vintage Port
Reviews:
100 Points – Wine Spectator
"In a word, superb. It's full-bodied, moderately sweet and incredibly tannic, but there's amazing finesse and refinement to the texture, not to mention fabulous, concentrated aromas of raspberries, violets and other flowers. Perhaps the greatest Taylor ever, it's better than either the '92 or the '70, though it's very like the '70 in structure."
This classically made, opaque purple-coloured wine is crammed with black fruits (blueberries and cassis). It reveals high tannin and a reserved style, but it is enormously constituted with massive body, a formidable mid-palate, and exceptional length. …

Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou, 1993
St Julien, 2eme Growth Classification
The Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou is one of the Medoc's more successful wines, the 1993 has reached full maturity. It exhibits a dark ruby/purple color, and a moderately attractive nose of minerals and jammy cranberry fruit intermixed with black currants. In the mouth, this wine has lost its baby fat, revealing medium body, and an elegant, measured personality. Pure, with well-integrated tannin, this is a stylish, graceful Ducru-Beaucaillou."

Chateau Haut Brion, 1993
Pessac Leognan 1er Grand Cru ClassePessac Leognan 1er Grand Cru Classe
*** 90 Points Robert parker ***
"Quite a surprise in a difficult vintage, a strict selection and the superb terroir of Haut Brion triumphed over a very challenging year that produced many hard, relatively herbaceous wines. The color is a surprisingly saturated deep plum/ruby. Some sweet berry fruit intermixed with menthol, graphite, damp earth, and a hint of mushroom emerges in this medium-bodied, very elegant Haut Brion that is still firmly structured but has sweet tannin and surprising length and ripeness. The wine will always represent a sleeper style. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2015. Last tasted, 11/02. …

Chateau Rieussec, 1993
Sauternes 1er Grand Cru Classe
The 1983 Chateau Rieussec and one of many decent wines produced in Bordeaux in this year. Colour rusty, deep gold. A beguiling bouquet of apricot, honey, molasses, old English Christmas cake, toffee and smoke. A beautiful texture in the mouth, weighty, viscous and satiny. Very rich, toffee, honey, treacle and poached pears and apricots. Very ripe but with sufficient acidity to hold it all together. Complex and multi-layered.

Marquis de Caussade, 1993
Vintage Armagnac
Amber core with a bronze rim; shows mellow walnut, warm spices, cocoa and prunes on the nose. Mellow attack on the palate finishing on a delicious freshness and texture.
Armagnac is a grape brandy produced in the Gascony region of south-west France, as it has been since at least the 15th century. A fuller-bodied (some would say rustic) style of brandy when compared to Cognac, it is only distilled once and is often aged for many years (decades in some cases) and makes an excellent digestif.
