Description
1975 Barbera – Marchesi di Barolo (Piedmont, Italy)
A rare, fully mature Barbera from one of the Langhe’s historic cellars, showing savoury poise and aromatic finesse. Brick-garnet with a tawny rim, it opens on dried cherry and cranberry, rose pot-pourri, cedar and sweet tobacco, with hints of orange peel, bay and black tea. The palate is mid-weight and graceful: Barbera’s lively, mouth-watering acidity carries red-cherry fruit, dried herbs and subtle undergrowth; tannins are fine and resolved, giving a silky, tapering finish of cherry skin, cedar spice and dried flowers.
Producer note: Marchesi di Barolo is a landmark Alba estate, long associated with classical Langhe winemaking. Their mature Barbera emphasises brightness, perfume and a food-friendly profile rather than heft.
Serve: 16–18 °C. Stand upright 12–24 hours; very gentle decant for sediment just before pouring.
Food pairing: Vitello tonnato, roast chicken with herbs, porcini risotto, aged cheeses
