Description
Bollinger La Grande Année 1995
The 1995 vintage in Champagne was outstanding, yielding wines of generosity, balance, and long-term ageing potential. Bollinger, with its trademark Pinot Noir-driven power, produced one of the vintage’s benchmark prestige cuvées in La Grande Année 1995. Crafted with meticulous barrel fermentation, hand riddling, and long lees ageing, this wine exemplifies both the house’s artisanal approach and the vintage’s elegance.
Tasting Notes
Now beautifully mature, the 1995 shows a deep golden hue with a delicate, persistent bead. The nose is rich and layered, offering notes of baked apple, honeycomb, toasted brioche, dried apricot, roasted hazelnuts, and a hint of truffle. Secondary and tertiary nuances of tobacco leaf, beeswax, and spice speak to its long bottle age.
On the palate, it is powerful yet refined – creamy in texture with a firm backbone of acidity that keeps it vibrant despite nearly three decades of evolution. Flavours of candied citrus, almond praline, caramelised pear, and subtle oak integration unfold into a remarkably long, nutty, and mineral-driven finish.
Style & Blend
The 1995 La Grande Année was composed of approx. 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay, sourced primarily from Grand Cru vineyards in Aÿ, Verzenay, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, and Cramant. Disgorged after extended cellar ageing, it was released with a restrained dosage, allowing purity and precision to shine through.
Serving & Cellaring
The 1995 is now fully mature, offering sublime drinking today, though top bottles stored in pristine conditions may continue to evolve gracefully for several more years. Best served with refined dishes such as lobster in butter sauce, roast game bird with truffle, or aged Comté cheese.
Verdict
Bollinger La Grande Année 1995 is a magnificent mature Champagne – rich, complex, and profoundly satisfying. It captures both the opulence of Bollinger’s house style and the harmony of the 1995 vintage, making it a truly memorable wine for collectors and connoisseurs alike.

Reviews:
"A blend of 63% Pinot Noir and 37% Chardonnay. The mushroom scent is predominant here, especially when compared with the Grande Annee 1996 and then with time, a touch of rock oyster shells and orange-blossom. The palate is very elegant, less assertive on the entry, lovely citrus fruit, apple-blossom, a hint of limestone, not fanning out with flavours towards the finish like the 1996, just a little more linearity with a soft landing on the finish.
