Description

Great vintage for this rich botrytised Saussignac, aged in 500l oak barrels prior to bottling.

Saussignac is a small appellation in the Bergerac wine region of southwestern France, known for producing high-quality sweet wines. These wines are often made from the same grape varieties and with similar techniques as those found in the more famous Sauternes appellation in Bordeaux.

Tasting Notes Saussignac wines typically have a deep golden or amber color. The nose is rich and complex, with aromas of honey, dried apricots, figs, marmalade, and candied fruits. There may also be floral notes and hints of vanilla and spice from oak aging. These wines are luscious and sweet on the palate, with a balanced acidity that prevents them from being cloying. Flavors mirror the aromas, with honey, ripe stone fruits, citrus peel, and sometimes nutty or toasty notes. The finish is long and lingering, with a harmonious balance of sweetness and acidity.

Serving Suggestions
Serve slightly chilled, around 50-54°F (10-12°C), to enjoy the full expression of its flavors and aromas.
Food Pairing: Saussignac sweet wines pair beautifully with foie gras, blue cheeses (such as Roquefort or Gorgonzola), and rich desserts like fruit tarts, crème brûlée, or almond pastries. They can also be enjoyed on their own as a dessert wine.
