1985 Chianti – Fattoria Concadoro “Cerasi” (Tuscany, Italy)

A beautifully mature, traditionally styled Chianti from a celebrated vintage, the 1985 “Cerasi” channels the elegance of old-school Sangiovese. Drawn primarily from Sangiovese (with a small supporting cast of local varieties) and raised in large old casks, it has evolved with remarkable poise, complexity and harmony.

In the glass, it shows a pale brick-garnet core with a broad tawny rim — the classic signature of graceful bottle age. The nose is captivating: dried cherry and amarena, rose pot-pourri and cedar, with nuances of leather, tea leaf, sweet tobacco and a gentle balsamic/iron note.

On the palate it’s mid-weight, silky and savoury. Lively, old-world acidity keeps the wine fresh, while the tannins are fully resolved. Flavours of red cherry, dried orange peel and bay mingle with black tea and subtle undergrowth, leading to a long, tapering finish of cherry skin, cedar spice and dried flowers.

Elegant, measured and utterly classical — this is mature Chianti for unhurried appreciation at the table.

    Serving Suggestions
Serve at 16–18 °C. Stand the bottle upright for 12–24 hours to settle sediment; very gentle decant just before service (for sediment only).

Perfect with roast chicken and herbs, bistecca tagliata, porcini risotto, or aged pecorino.

As a fully mature still wine, it’s best enjoyed the day it’s opened; with a good stopper it can hold for 24–48 hours in the fridge, though delicacy may fade.
