Description
This 1988 Chianti Riserva has matured gracefully, revealing the depth and elegance of aged Sangiovese. The bouquet offers aromas of dried cherry, plum, leather, tobacco, and subtle hints of forest floor, balsamic, and spice. On the palate it is medium-bodied, with softened tannins, balanced acidity, and flavours of stewed red fruit, earth, and a gentle touch of cedar. The finish is long, harmonious, and savoury, reflecting the wine’s mature Tuscan character.
Serving Suggestions
For optimal enjoyment, stand the bottle upright for 24–48 hours before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Carefully decant the wine to separate it from the sediment. Serve at 17 °C (63 °F) after decanting for 30–40 minutes to allow the aromas to fully open. Pairs beautifully with roasted or braised meats, game, mushroom risotto, aged cheeses such as Pecorino or Parmigiano Reggiano, and traditional Tuscan dishes like pappardelle al cinghiale or ribollita.
