Description

Deep ruby colour, this wine has appealing aromas of black cherries and black plums, with savoury hint of toast and clove and a subtle earthiness. On the palate it is full-bodied, with ripe and round tannins giving structure and an elegant acidity which carries the flavours onto the lingering finish.

Despite its southerly location, Vidígueira is one of the cooler Alentejo sub-regions and benefits from cool Atlantic air funnelled inland by a gap in the coastal hills. The vineyards are planted on rolling hills and 12 different soil types have been identified with a predominance of limestone, which controls vine vigour and lends elegance to the wines. Precision viticulture is carried out on the estate and each grape variety has been matched to its ideal plot. All of the Herdade do Peso vineyards are sustainably farmed and the on-site reservoir provides much-needed water to irrigate the vineyards during the warm Alentejo summers.

Situated in the south of the Alentejo, in the commune of Vidígueira, the Herdade do Peso estate covers a total of 457 hectares. On the estate are 160 hectares of vineyard planted on gently rolling hills, a new eco-friendly winery, an on-site reservoir and remarkable olive groves which date back to Roman times.

89 Points - Robert Parker
The 2019 Tinto Revelado is a blend of 56% Alicante Bouschet, 30% Touriga Nacional and the rest Syrah, aged for 12 months in mostly used French oak. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. This is a blend of several different terroirs from the property. Fruity and fresh, this is filled with flavor. The wood doesn't get in the way, nor do the tannins. The ripe tannins do provide support, though, and prevent this from becoming too simple. In fact, it is focused and fresh. And delicious. On most fronts, this is the least impressive wine from the estate in this report, but at the price point, it is one you can easily gravitate to as a house pour or a restaurant wine. It will be a consumer favorite. Mark Squires July 2022.
