Description
1985 Giuseppe Fanetti, Principesco – Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Tuscany
A distinguished Vino Nobile di Montepulciano from the celebrated 1985 vintage, produced by Giuseppe Fanetti, one of the pioneering figures of Montepulciano’s modern winemaking era. Fanetti was instrumental in restoring the prestige of Vino Nobile during the 20th century, crafting wines of depth and elegance from the region’s prized Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese) vines.
The Principesco 1985 reflects a warm, generous vintage that yielded ripe fruit and long-lived wines. In the glass, it shows a garnet core with tawny highlights, typical of mature Tuscan reds. The bouquet is wonderfully evolved — dried cherry, plum, and cedar interwoven with leather, truffle, balsamic herbs, and sweet tobacco.
On the palate, it remains balanced and graceful, with softened tannins and a savoury, earthy complexity. Flavours of dried red fruit, spice, and old oak persist through to a long, dry, gently nutty finish. This is classic, old-school Vino Nobile — dignified, rustic, and deeply expressive of place.
Serving Suggestions
Serve at 16–18 °C after gentle decanting to remove sediment. Allow 30–45 minutes of aeration before serving.
Ideal with roast lamb, pasta with wild boar ragù, or aged pecorino toscano. Also excellent alongside mushroom risotto or truffle-infused dishes.
