Description
1982 Rosso di Montalcino – Tenuta Il Poggione (Tuscany, Italy)
A rare, fully mature Rosso from one of Montalcino’s benchmark estates, showing the graceful, savoury side of long-aged Sangiovese Grosso. Brick-garnet with a broad tawny rim, it opens on dried cherry and cranberry, rose petal and violet, with cedar, leather and sweet tobacco, plus a hint of orange peel, black tea and gentle balsamic/underbrush. Mid-weight and silken on the palate: lively, old-school acidity carries red-cherry fruit, dried herbs and subtle porcini; tannins are fine and resolved, the finish tapering with cherry skin, cedar spice and dried flowers.
Producer note: Tenuta Il Poggione, a historic southern Montalcino estate in Sant’Angelo in Colle, is famed for classically elegant Sangiovese matured in large casks and released with bottle age—wines that evolve toward perfume, poise and savoury complexity.
Serve: 16–18 °C. Stand upright 12–24 hours; very gentle decant for sediment just before pouring.
Food pairing: Roast lamb or chicken with herbs, pappardelle al ragù, porcini risotto, aged pecorino.
