Description
1990 Vin del Sasso – Giuseppe Fanetti (Tuscany, Italy)
A quietly elegant, fully mature Tuscan red from the historic Fanetti family of Montepulciano. Brick-garnet with a broad tawny rim, it opens on lifted aromas of dried cherry and amarena, rose petal, cedar and sweet tobacco, with hints of orange peel, tea leaf and a gentle balsamic note. The palate is mid-weight and savoury rather than sweet-fruited: lively, old-school acidity carries red-cherry and cranberry, dried herbs and subtle leather; tannins are fine and fully resolved. The finish tapers gracefully with cherry skin, cedar spice and dried flowers.
This is dinner-table Sangiovese in a classical key—perfumed, nuanced and ready to pour—perfect for those who prize finesse over power. A lovely bottle for unhurried meals and conversation.
Serve: 16–18 °C. Stand upright 12–24 hours; very gentle decant for sediment just before pouring.
Food pairing: Roast chicken with herbs, bistecca tagliata, porcini risotto, aged pecorino.
