Kopke, 1964
Colheita Port
94 Points - Wine Enthusiast
This 1964 Colheita Port from Kopke was made with traditional Douro grape varieties harvested in 1964. It was then aged in oak casks for over half a century, resulting in a complex bouquet of dried fruit, milk chocolate and freshly ground coffee on the nose. The palate has a good structure and acidity with notes of apricot, runny honey. It is an exceptional wine that is ready to drink now.
Reviews: "With a light amber colour, reveals a nose full of elegance and character, where the dried fruits are blended with the light sensations of chocolate and coffee. In the mouth it’s an attractive, velvety and involving wine. …

Chateau Haut Brion, 1964
Pessac Leognan 1er Grand Cru Classe
Level in Neck | Damaged Label
Clearance Offer | Was £795 | £295 ***
notes on 1964 Haut Brion
"... deep garnet core with a tawny rim. A light nose, touches of smoked wood, cedar, pain grille and soot. Nice definition but the fruit is all but dispensed with. The palate is medium-bodied with sharp acidity, nice tautness here, good depth but not complex. Fine tannins, dusty black fruit with hints of black olive towards the tobacco-tinged finish, that seems just a little sugary (chaptalized?) Certainly not a bad wine for the vintage more renowned on the Right Bank and it has held up well. Graceful and undemanding. Drink now. Tasted June 2009.

Janneau, 1964
Armagnac 1964 Vintage
The great vintages or millésimés of Janneau are the expression of a single year, most commonly of a single cask. Produced exclusively with the single distillation process, they are the quintessence of this precious distillate aged over the years. Each vintage expresses its unique character. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a sharp contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. …

Taylor Fladgate, 1963
Vintage Port
Unlabelled
Ruby highlights surviving in the colour. Deep, intense, Burgundian richness. At first the spirit is rather overpowering. Then dark chocolate starts appearing, followed by herbal, gum cistus, licorice, cigar box, leathery quality really comes through in the mouth and a slightly medicinal character. Medium length.
This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal. Their ports are remarkably backward yet still impressive when young. Of all the vintage ports, those of Taylor need the longest time to mature and even when fully mature seem to have an inner strength and firmness that keep them going for decades. …
