D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1983

Verdelho

1983 D'Oliveiras Verdelho.
Madeira is a complex, interesting wine and is made in virtually every vintage. Due to the unique estufagem aging process Madeira is one of the longest-lived wines and also improves for days after opening, but will keep, once opened, for a month and more in a decanter.

Very pale amber, dried apricots, raisins, bananas, vanilla, fantastic layers and complexity. Fresh and high acidity, again nuanced feel, refreshing, lively, intense and still manages to be refreshing, long finish.

Fonseca Port, 1983

Vintage Port

Fonseca is one of our all-time favourites. Fonseca's 1983-vintage Port is made with a harvest that survived the first snowfall in Pinhão in 20 years and heavy rain through the spring. The result is intense aromas of dark chocolate, prune, fig and hints of rich double cream. Consider pairing its chocolate, fig, prune, raisin and walnut flavours with a cheeseboard or with festive fare over the Christmas period.

An outstanding Port rating 92/100 from an outstanding vintage. Robert Parker writes of this port... "Fonseca is one of the great port lodges, producing the most exotic and most complex port.

As in all things, however, what comes around goes around! Sure enough, 20 years later savvy consumers and food-conscious sommeliers are looking for finesse and freshness and heading back to Bairrada and Dao. Wines that when young had a vegetal character,

***94 Points- Wine Advocate***

The 1983 Ramos Pinto has a startling intensity with a superb and slightly evolved cherry-red colour. A notoriously intense, lively and energetic nose that gives it a masculine quality. Torres Coronas Gran Reserva, Rioja

The Torres Gran Coronas Reserva 1983 is a mature and distinguished red wine from one of Spain’s most respected producers, Familia Torres. Based in the Penedès region of Catalonia, the Torres family has been crafting wines for over 150 years, with Gran Coronas standing out as one of their premium labels. Chateau Cos d'Estournel, 1982

St Estephe, 2nd Growth Classification

Review by Robert Parker... "A spectacular performance for this wine, Cos d'Estournel's 1982 exhibits a dark ruby/purple color with light pink at the rim. Sweet aromas of jammy black fruits intermixed with roasted espresso and vanillin jump from the glass of this young, concentrated, full-bodied, succulent effort. An opulent texture, low acidity, and splendidly pure, concentrated, blackberry and cassis fruit suggest this 1982 can be drunk now, or cellared for another 15-20 years. An awesome wine!" Château Cos d'Estournel is a prestigious wine estate located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation of Bordeaux, France.

Chateau d'Yquem, 1982

Sauternes 1er Grand Cru Classe
Sweet White Wine
Individual Yquem Wooden Case

Yquem is indisputedly the best wine in Sauternes and may well be the finest sweet wine in the world.

92 Points, Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate, 26th Jun 2014

Served from an ex-chateau bottle. Sauternes only produced two exceptional wines in 1982: Suduiraut and Yquem. Although I have encountered the 1982 Chateau d’Yquem on three occasions, this is the finest bottle. It was an early vintage, physiological ripeness reached on September 16. Rainfall interrupted the harvest that really could not start in earnest until November 2, for just four days. It has a lucid amber color, and a fully mature bouquet with mandarin and marmalade aromas that are pure and well-delineated.
