This Montrose from 1977 is fully mature and, like so many wines from this difficult vintage, is way past its optimum drinking window. We have found one recent note on this wine in cellar Tracker "Has bit of leathery, animal funk going on. There are also notes of cedar and cassis. It is relatively compact but not too skinny. Domaine du Grand Tunel - E. Jeune

An outstanding wine still with a deep red colour. This has really strong bouquet with lovely packing in it; there is charm in the soft red fruits, but power and depth in behind, via some tobacco and rum: all comes in a silken air. This is rich on the palate, backed by good structure and tannin to keep it in shape. Very good length.

Marchesi di Barolo, Barolo, Piedmont

Barolo wines from 1975, especially those from a reputable producer like Marchesi di Barolo, are highly esteemed and likely to have aged into something special.
Expect a garnet hue with a brick-orange rim, typical of well-aged Nebbiolo. The wine may appear slightly lighter in colour due to its age. It will have aromas of earthy notes, dried fruits and some hints of leather and tar. Medium to full-bodied, though the tannins have likely softened significantly over time, making the wine more elegant.

1975 was a declared vintage and the vintage ports have a lighter style. The 1975 Sandeman is well above average, represents good value and has a good provenance. It is a pale ruby colour. Morello cherries, black berries and liquorice on the nose which has a slightly roasted quality. Slightly treacle like on the palate, with notes of honey and mocha.
