Croft Port, 2017

Vintage Port
IMPERIAL 600cl 19/20 - Richard Mayson
Special order please allow 7 days for delivery

Dense inky core fading to a magenta rim. A seductive Croft nose, ripe and voluptuous but with the depth and density characteristic of the 2017 vintage. As usual, plump, juicy blackcurrant, black cherry and raspberry form the backdrop. However, the nose is soon drawn into a vortex of heady, complex aroma in which resiny scents of eucalyptus and gumcistus blend with pungent notes of sage and mint, fresh hints of grapefruit and a mellow spiciness. On the palate, firm, sinewy tannins are wrapped in a thick envelope of dense, velvety texture. As is often the case, this is one of the most exotic and beguiling wines of the vintage.

SERIKOS Vintage Port
***18.5/20 Jancis Robinson***

Croft has announced the release of the first Vintage Port made from the produce of the old, historic vineyard plots on the company’s flagship property, Quinta da Roêda. Named Serikos, a historical reference to the property’s involvement in the production of silk following the destruction of its vineyards by Phylloxera and to the silken quality of its wines, it will be made available on allocation in very limited quantities.

TASTING NOTES.
Inky black centre in a slender ring of deep purple. The nose opens with a dazzling peacock’s tail of scents and aromas. The rich, ripe fruit, which is a consistent feature of the wines of Quinta da Roêda,

Dow's, 2017

Vintage Port
Half Bottle (37.5cl)

Dow’s, 2017 Vintage Port

The 2017 vintage stands among the most remarkable Port declarations of recent decades. Following a dry winter and an exceptionally hot summer in the Douro Valley, the harvest arrived earlier than usual, producing small, intensely concentrated grapes. Despite the heat, the finest vineyards retained excellent freshness, resulting in wines of great power, purity and balance.

Dow’s 2017 Vintage Port is a superb expression of the house’s distinctive style — structured, elegant and slightly drier than many of its counterparts. The nose reveals deep aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and dark plum, complemented by hints of violet, cocoa and subtle spice.

Dow's, 2017

Vintage Port
Magnum Bottle (150cl)
98/100 - James Suckling

Tasting notes
It is rare to see such tremendous depth and intensity in colour as this wine displays The freshness of the floral aromas is very attractive with a dominance of rockrose, a flower that grows wild around the hills of Senhora da Ribeira. On the palate, it is exceptionally full-bodied, rich and powerful with black fruit coming to the fore. Gorgeous, ripe fruit is balanced by the fine tannin structure. On the finish, it is typically Dow, austere and somewhat drier than many other ports. The intense fruit flavours linger long on the palate.

Charles Symington commented after selecting the final blend:
“This is one of the finest Dow’s Vintage Ports I have blended.

Tasting Note
A narrow magenta ring around a core of inky purple black. The nose opens with a burst of dark, woodland fruit, dense and succulent, blended with fresher, more vibrant red berry aromas. A slatey minerality holds this exuberant fruitiness in check. At this stage, the nose is still reserved and discreetly aromatic, revealing leafy, balsamic scents and cedary notes of sawn wood. The first impression on the palate, as on the nose, is of tightly packed, dense dark berry fruit, which then explodes on the mid-palate and surges into the long finish.

£119 Now £84.95 Save £35

In 1996 Spinetta acquired the Starderi vineyard, which is located on the hills just behind those of Gallina.
Despite the two vineyards being geographically in the vicinity of one another, they hold very distinct characteristics which are determined by the crucial differences in microclimate, exposure and terrain. The Tanaro river, which flows at the bottom of the valley, affects the climate by mitigating both the extreme winters and the drastic hot summers.

Starderi always produces wines which express a rich character while maintaining great elegance. This difference is pronounced in the aromas: Starderi shows mainly hints of red berries and ripe fruit.

95 - Wine Enthusiast
*** 17/20 Points- JancisRobinson.com ***
*** 92 Points- Wine Advocate ***

The 2017 Massolino Barolo grapes come from different vineyards and this gives them a broad and variable spectrum of perfumes, ranging from tempting spicy notes to those of a sweeter, floral and fruity nature.
Flavour: a variety of sensations, with a full-bodied, classic and well structured wine which ages well and perfectly represents the important character of our land. It is best to decant and serve it at temperatures between 18-20°C.
It achieves its best expression when served with red meats, particularly game, and with dishes dressed with truffle. It is also excellent with fresh egg pasta and meat sauce, and with risotto, as well as medium-mature cow’s milk and goat’s milk cheeses.

Massolino - Barolo Margheria, Piedmont
***96 - Wine Enthusiast***
***93 Points- Wine Advocate***

The Cru is located in Serralunga d'Alba, at an altitude of around 280 metres above sea level. It occupies an area of about one and a half hectares.
Purchased by our family in the 1970s, Margheria is one of the most celebrated MGA in Serralunga.
With south-westerly exposure, the average age of the vines is around 40 years.
The soil composition gives the wines elegance, with mineral and spicy notes accompanied by potency and longevity.
Barolo DOCG Margheria draws much of its character from calcareous soil, with a slightly higher percentage of sand than in our other subzones. Made for the first time in 1985, it has great ageing potential, like the great Barolo wines of Serralunga.
