Sale

Burmester Cellar Release
50 Year Old Vintage Port
Special Offer | was £220 | Now £189 Includes Burmester Box as Pictured

This 1970 Vintage Port from Burmester has been stored at the Burmester cellars in Porto since bottling. This is a very limited edition cellar release beautifully presented in a Burmester Box

The 1970 Burmester is a beautiful mature tawny colour. On the nose it has cocoa, chocolate together with a zesty orange undertone. On the palate this is quite complex - medium bodied with a perfect balance between the acidity, tannins and flavours. Long, long finish. This is in a good place and should hold well for the next decade or so. (VWP note - tasting May 2019)

1970 Chateau d'Yquem, 1970

Sauternes Premiere Grand Cru Classe
Includes Light Oak Gift Box

The 1970 Chateau Yquem is a monumental wine that has been perfectly cellared for nearly 50 years before being acquired by VWP. Perfect colour and exceptional condition.

"The 1970 Yquem is a large-scaled, rich, full-bodied, fairly alcoholic Yquem with significant flavor interest as well as crisp acidity. Unlike the 1971, which is close to peak maturity, this wine has a long way to go and is impressive, but not yet revealing all of its potential." Robert Parker, Bordeaux 3rd Edition. Parker rating 90/100 (outstanding)

1970 Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1970

Sale

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe
Mid-shoulder level.
Special Offer | Was £395 | Now £295

**93 Points - Robert Parker**

The 1970 Mouton Rothschild had opened magnificently to reveal a classic bouquet of sweet cassis, tobacco, minerals, and exotic spice aromas. Opulent, full-bodied, thick, and juicy, the extraordinary evolution of this particular bottle would make a persuasive argument for long-term decanting. After being perplexed throughout much of this wine's evolution, I was reassured by this bottle.

1970 Ramos Pinto Port

Sale

Ramos Pinto Vintage Port
Includes FREE deluxe gift box with accessories

From the outstanding 1970 vintage, the Ramos Pinto is a beautiful port. Excellent colour with a little red. On the nose jammy strawberries, spice, a hint of pepper and liquorice. On the palate, so beautifully smooth and in great balance, red fruit some violets. A long long finish. This is a beautiful wine.

Reviews
"Mature in appearance with a wide rose rim; 60% opaque but full of fine sediment. Delicious redcurrants on the nose, mature and sweet. Rounded and sweet on the palate with lots of sweet fruit but lacking a little acidity so feeling a touch flabby. Very sweet on the late palate, with lots of parma violets which appear on and dominate the aftertaste.

1970 Janneau 50 Year Old Armagnac

Armagnac 1970 Vintage

The great vintages or millésimés of Janneau are the expression of a single year, most commonly of a single cask. Produced exclusively with the single distillation process, they are the quintessence of this precious distillate aged over the years. Each vintage expresses its unique character. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a sharp contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish.

1970 Taylors Single Harvest Port, 1970

New

Colheita Single Harvest Port

Taylor’s has an extensive and enviable library of very old Ports and each year they release a 50 year old Single Harvest Port which represents the cream of their aged reserves.

Often referred to as Colheitas, these single harvest Tawny ports are a far cry from vintage port with very slow and gentle ageing in oak casks creating ports of extreme aromatic complexity with delightfully mellow structures. And the 1970 Port vintage was of one outstanding quality - ideal growing conditions produced what is now a classic vintage - universally declared by all the major port houses.

Taylors wine maker review:
Pale mahogany core surrounded by a broad pale gold rim with subtle olive highlights.

Barolo, 1970

Franco Fiorina

The 1970 Franco Florina Barolo is a tribute to the producer's reputation for making age worthy wines. Still structured and good power. Fully mature, but fresh and clean. More on the undergrowth and mushrooms than floral and red-fruited side of mature nebbiolo. Excellent.

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best.
