Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 1962

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe, level mid-high shoulder, label torn/damaged and bin soiled.

90 Points (Wine Journal)

"Although this has a more mature colour than the Margaux ’62, the nose is in a completely difference league with much better vigour and delineation: faded red-berried fruit, wild strawberry, cedar, a touch of leather and earth. The palate is very well balanced, slightly medicinal on the entry but showing much better fruit concentration than the Margaux, perfectly judged acidity and fine but firm tannins holding everything together. It has tautness on the linear finish that is so classic Lafite and in retrospect, this is the best bottle of Lafite ’62 to have passed my palate.

Chateau Latour, 1962

Pauillac 1st Growth Classification (top shoulder good labels)

A rare first growth wine. Chateau Latour only selects grapes from the 47 hectares which surround the Château Latour, the heart of the estate to make the "Grand Vin de Château Latour. The 1962 is medium-deep in colour with amber at the rim, with fragrant brambly, earthy aromas. Bright fruitiness characterised the palate, with intense, fresh aftertaste.

Chateau Leoville Lascases, 1962

St Julien, 2nd Growth Classification (MAGNUM)

Léoville Las Cases is the most legendary wine of Saint-Julien: on a quality par with the Médoc's first growths, without the hefty price premium to match. It is a prime example of a Bordeaux 'super-second' - a second growth operating at a first growth level. Léoville Las Cases is also one of the largest, oldest and most picturesque of the Médoc's classified Bordeaux growths. Grapes are fermented at lower than average temperatures, which is partially responsible for the wines displaying some of the most exotic aromas and aromatic richness in the Médoc.

Chateau Yquem, 1962

Sauternes 1er Grand cru Classe, Label badly stained

91 Points Wine Journal.

" Moderate Clear lucid gold with green tints. The nose is very elegant and well defined, touches of wet wool, honey, wood resin and barley sugar (a la Barsac). I wish it had more vigour and complexity, for it is rather overwhelmed by the Coutet and the Suduiraut. The palate is far better than the nose with a lovely creamy, harmonious texture with perfect acidity and balance. Citrus peel, fresh ginger, dried apricot, ginger and orange sorbet with noticeable residual sugar on the finish. This is probably an underrated Yquem given market prices, but the modest nose means I must temper my appraisal.

Cirò, 1962

F.B. Acqui

The Ciro Rosso has a bright ruby red color and transparent. Has an elegant bouquet in which they differ floral and fruity notes: rose, maraschino cherry, red fruit and hints of iodine on a rhubarb and sweet spices. Dow's Port, 1962

Vintage Port - Cellar Reserve

The Dows 1962 is a very rare Vintage Port. The bottles were registered at the institute but never declared. Deeper orange red compared to the 1960. Fine nose of peppery sweet fruit with some balsamic tones, honey cake, beef soup and Indian spices. The fine elegant start of taste is smooth, refined and mouth filling. A well balanced vintage port with medium length. All there in a more approachable style. A very nice vintage port which was just bound to be forgotten once the strong classic 1963’s were ageing in the cellar. Last tasted July 2017. (Christies Tasting Note)

Fracia, 1962

Nino Negri

The classic Valtellina Superiore wine is deep crimson in color, and has a rich bouquet of dried cherries, pencil shavings, tar and roses – the tell-tale sign of a wine made from Nebbiolo. As might be expected for a mountain-grown wine made from Nebbiolo, it is light-bodied and laced with grippy tannins. Although generally weightier and more concentrated than standard Rosso di Valtellina wines, they are almost always lighter in both body and power than the most famous of all Nebbiolo-based wines, Barolo and Barbaresco.

Marzemino, 1962

Cavit

Marzemino is a red Italian wine grape that is primarily grown around Isera, south of Trentino. The wine is most noted for its mention in the opera Don Giovanni of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ("Versa il vino! Eccellente Marzemino!"). The vine ripens late and is susceptible to many grape diseases including oidium. Wine produced from the grape has a characteristic dark tint and light plummy taste. Ampelographers have long theorized that the grape originated in northern Italy. Recent DNA profiling conducted at the research facility in San Michele all'Adige revealed Marzemino to have a parent-offspring
