Warre's Vintage Port, 1960

Vintage port

** 90 Points Wine Spectator **

This wine is now beginning to reach its full maturity and is likely to be ready for drinking. As it ages further, it will begin to develop gently into a more tawny style wine. Intense, structured with a nice soft finish." Almost perfect in its maturity. Still delicious.

"A powerhouse port that has been mellowed and opened up by time. Now in its 43rd year, its tannins have softened to reveal dark fruit flavors, herbaceousness and plenty of grip in the finish." Wine Spectator, 2003.

"Masses of rich plums and prunes on the flavour. So rich – such a surprise.

Barbaresco, 1959

Produttori del Barbaresco - Riserva

Barbaresco is one of the great wines of Italy's north-western Piedmont region. This aristocratic red has its vineyards situated in the Langhe, on the right-hand side of the Tanaro river and extending from the area north-east of Alba to the communes of Barbaresco, Neive and Treiso. The dominant variety grown is Nebbiolo, but Dolcetto and Barbera also play a part. The vines are generally grown on limestone-rich marl soils. similar to the Tortonium soils of the Barolo and La Morra areas in Barolo. Similar to its more famous sibling Barolo, Barbaresco is made from 100% Nebbiolo and shares its cult status as one of the finest wines in the world.

Cantine Antonio Ferrari, 1959

Antonio Ferrari

*** 97 Points *** Wine Advocate

This 1959 Wine from Solaria Jonica wine is an outstanding vintage wine and absolute "must have" for anyone celebrating a special Birthday or anniversary from this year. It is highly recommended by our wine buyer and many leading wine critics.

Review
"No, the vintage date of this wine is not an error. Just released, it is a selection of old-vine Primitivo grown south of Taranto and only now hitting the market. No one seems to know whether the fermentation was stopped by fortifying the wine or if it just stopped on its own as a result of the superlative richness of the must, but the fact remains that, with close to 14% of alcohol, it is as sweet as a great Recioto, a wine which it greatly resembles.

Chateau Latour, 1959

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe -
High shoulder- Bin soiled label
**98 Points-Wine Advocate**

Château Latour is one of Bordeaux's – and the world's – most famous wine producers. It is situated in the southeast corner of the Pauillac commune on the border of Saint-Julien, in the Médoc region. Rated as a First Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, it has become one of the most sought-after and expensive wine producers on the planet, and produces powerfully structured Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant wines capable of lasting many decades.

Dark garnet with an amber edge, the 1959 Latour reveals a touch of volatile acidity in the nose, along with aromas of melted caramel, tobacco, and jammy red and black fruits.

Chateau Montrose, 1959

St Estephe, 2eme Cru Classe, Bordeaux
*** 93 Points Robert Parker (NM) ***

*** 93 Points Robert Parker (NM) ***

Reviews: "Tasted at the Montrose vertical in Stamford, the 1959 Montrose out-performed the 1961. It displayed a rich, deep red color with some bricking on the rim commensurate with age. The bouquet is winsome: black and red fruit, dried herbs, chlorophyll and rose petals that gently unfurl. The palate is medium-bodied with notes of cedar and damp earth, commendable depth of fruit and quite structured for a 1959. No, not a sumptuous old Claret, perhaps a little serious, yet this 1959 Montrose is just full of elan and will continue to drink well for a decade if bottles are of sound provenance.

Domaine et Terroirs du Sud, 1959

Domaine et Terroirs du Sud, Maury

96 points Vinous
This 1959 Maury may ultimately turn out to be Philippe Gayral's greatest find. It comes from the oldest parcels of Grenache Noir and Carignan and spent 40 years in wooden foudres. It has a lucid amber hue. The bouquet is utterly sublime: red plum, Hoisin, mulberry, burnt toffee, stewed Clementines and just a hint of VA giving it life. Wonderful! The palate is beautifully balanced with disarming fine, almost filigree tannins. Stewed red fruit, fig jam, tayberry, Moroccan spices and quince suffuse this Maury that has outstanding length and delineation. The 300 bottles produced are due to be released later this year.

Barolo, 1958

Fontanafredda

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

Madeira, 1958

MMV - Boal - Bottled by Barbeito *

This is a rare and limited release of the 1958 Madeira from the family cellars. The bottles are in perfect condition. There is something ethereal about tasting such a rare vintage. The 1958 Boal is very dry as one would expect from this style of Madeira. There is a huge amount happening on the complexity front with some bitter nut skin notes with dried flowers and citrus pith. Although quite dry, this does not come across as too severe. An electric wine that is astonishingly refreshing. Massive finish that goes on and on.

Nebbiolo D'Alba, 1958

Pio Cesare

The Nebbiolo has a lovely earthy bouquet. The nose has cherries, dark cherries, tar and slight dried rose notes. Complex and layered. Nice acidity. Medium tannins still present. Cherries on the palate too. Nice finish. Great food wine. Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines. Though generally only medium-bodied, the wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavors of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones.
