Chateau d'Armailhac, 2001

Pauillac, 5th Growth classification

From the excellent 2001 vintage, the Chateau d'Armailhac has a ripe, fleshy nose of cooked meats, red-berried fruit, leather and roasted herbs. The wine is medium-bodied, and a mature gamey palate. A little cigar box and firm tannin - good finish.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2001

Pauillac, 1st Growth Classification

*** 94 Points - Robert parker ***
*** 96 Points - Neil Martin ***

Reviews:
The 2001 Lafite Rothschild’s deep, saturated plum/purple color is accompanied by lead pencil liqueur-like notes intermixed with sweet red and black currants, plums, and cedar. This blend of 86.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13.5% Merlot is a classic example of Lafite. Extremely elegant, medium-bodied, with intense concentration, richness, and sweet tannin, it appears to be on a rapid evolutionary track, at least in comparison to recent Lafite vintages that have been far more backward and powerful. The classy 2001 should be at its finest between 2007-2020.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 2001

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

"Lifted blackberry, autumn leaf, cedar and a touch of fresh tobacco, the mintiness enhanced by continued aeration. The palate is very tight and slightly pinched at the moment, the tannins a little harder and less fine than Lafite, the finish slightly chalky and foursquare in texture. Personally, I prefer the 2002 to the previous year, but it is still a decent, mid-weight Pauillac that would show better with cuisine. Drink 2013-2025. Tasted November 2010." Chateau Troplong Mondot, 2001

St Emilion Grand Cru Classe
*** 99 Points Robert Parker ***

The 2009 Chateau Troplong Mondot is an outstanding wine that shows smoke, earth, stone, black cherry and truffle. With air, the medium/full bodied, sensuous, wine filled out in the glass while becoming softer, with more richness. Ready to drink and close to maturity, ends with fresh blackberry and spicy plum sensations.

It boasts an inky/purple colour along with a gorgeous bouquet of mocha, chocolate, blackberry and cassis fruit, an unctuous texture, a full-bodied, viscous mouthfeel and a skyscraper-like, multilayered finish. This spectacular wine is nearly overwhelming in its richness, thickness and intensity.

Chateauneuf du Pape, 2001

Domaine Vieux Telegraphe

The 2001 Vieux Telegraphe Rouge invariably has a beautiful colour, an earthy nose, but one of freshness, lively and promising. One finds freshness in the mouth, nervy and lightly mentholated. At the same time, it is suave and rich on the finish. The tannins are supple and ripe with no dryness. The end of the tasting is very clean and woody, rich with a light liquorice taste.

With its structure and complexity this red wine will go well with game, lamb or risotto with wild mushrooms cooked in a red wine sauce.

Dolcetto d'Alba, 2001

Sandrone Luciano

A native black grape variety of Northern Italy grown almost exclusively in the provinces of Cuneo and Alessandria in Piedmont. It is relatively easy to cultivate, although it is susceptible to fungal diseases. It ripens before Barbera and Nebbiolo and is often grown in high north-facing sites which would be unsuitable for Nebbiolo. The finest Dolcetto wines come from grapes grown on soils rich with white marls, especially those found on the right bank of the River Tauro. The wines generally are low in tannins and acidity and are usually fruity and fragrant, often with hints of almonds.

Dow's 20 Year Old Tawny Port was relaunched in 2019, after an absence from the market for a number of years. For many the perfect age for a great Tawny Port. The vibrant purple colour of a great young Port has softened to a delicate green-gold after 20 long years in seasoned oak casks under the watchful eye of the master blender and the Dow’s head lodge man. On the palate, Dow’s Twenty Years Old Tawny is perfectly balanced, with notes of dried nuts and spice. One of the greatest wines a Port blender can make.

Kopke Port, 2001

Kopke 20 Year Old Tawny Port In Gift Box

Aged in wood casks until they are completely mature, Tawny ports are a golden colour with multi-dimensional layers of aromas and flavours. The domination of Vintage Ports in past years is now challenged by the advantages of the tawnies, especially vintage colheita tawnies for restaurants and retail consumers. Where vintage ports have immediate air shock upon opening the bottle wherein they were aged and have a shelf life of only a few hours to a week; tawny ports have had air working on them through the cask during all the years of ageing, giving them a open-life of a month or longer. Lighter and more delicate than vintage ports,

Montepulciano, 2001

New

d'Abruzzo, Casal Thaulero Aprutina

Montepulciano is a red wine grape variety grown widely in central Italy, most notably its eastern Abruzzo, Marche and Molise regions. The variety was named after the Tuscan parish of Montepulciano, but, confusingly, is not used in the famous wines produced there (see Vino Nobile di Montepulciano). Globally appreciated for their soft flavors, strong color and gentle tannins, Montepulciano wines are typically best consumed in their youth and with food. The deep-purple juice of Montepulciano grapes is used in varying proportions to produce wines under roughly 50 of Italy's DOC and DOCG titles. Although sometimes used on its own,

Offley Port

20 Year Old Tawny Port (Includes original Carton Box as illustrated)

Tasting notes:
With a well-defined tawny hue with orange-like hints, its aroma is intense and complex, with notes of vanilla, cinnamon, pepper, ginger, exotic wood, cedar, plum and hazel. On the palate, its fine structure and balance between sugars and tannins stand out. the finish is delicate and lingering.

Production method:
Hand-picked grapes undergo stalk-removal and crushing before fermentation, under controlled temperature, with skin maceration. The addition of wine alcohol at the ideal moment sets the balance between the wine's body and bouquet. Ageing in wooden casks in the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, the final blend results from a selection of wines between 15 and 40 years.

Chateau Haut Batailley, 2000

Pauillac 5th Growth Classification

*** 90 points Robert Parker ***

Reviews
"AOne of the finest Haut-Batailleys ever made (it certainly rivals the 1996), this deep ruby/purple-colored wine is a beauty. Notes of raspberries, liquified minerals, cassis, and tobacco jump from the glass of this attractive, velvety-textured wine. Some tannin is there, but it is abundantly fruity, low in acidity, and is a quintessentially elegant style of Bordeaux. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2015." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate.

Chateau Labegorce, 2000

Margaux, cru bourgeois (MAGNUM)

Scoring 90+ points on Cellar Tracker. The 2000 chateau Labegorce is recommended for the vintage.

Reviews:
"The wine is of a strong brick. Advanced nose of leather, undergrowth, some smoke and spices. On the palate, the wine takes about thirty minutes before getting out of its shell and offers at this time tart cherry (sweet cherry candy), spices (anise), a hint of smoke, leather, undergrowth, with typical acidity of an old wine. The bottle emptied quickly and was appreciated by people around the table. Made 11.5% alcohol." Cellar Tracker

Chateau Sociando Mallet, 2000

Medoc Cru Grand Bourgeois

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

This is a beautiful wine and certainly one of the great sleepers of the vintage. I originally predicted that this wine would be at full maturity between 2007 and 2028, but I would push that back by a good 4-5 years. Still inky/purple, with notes of acacia flowers intermixed with wet rocks, black currants, and blueberries, the wine is full-bodied, displays no real evidence of any oak, and offers up terrific concentration, texture, and length.
