RT Madeira, 1789

Vintage Madeira

Provenance from Christies.

Some early 19th century bottles are found branded Rufino Teixeira and this is relative to the RT on this bottle. Teixeira is an old Madeira family, Tristão Vaz Teixeira being one of the first to discover the Island in the 15th century (in 1419, 600 years ago!)

In January 2019 we received the following email.
"Regarding the bottle of Madeira Wine "RT 1789" on sale, would like to inform you as follows;
The wine is Sercial and the bottle was painted by my grandfather, which was a Madeira Wine exporter around the year 1910.
The RT wine comes from my great-great-grandfather and RT means "Rufino Teixeira".

Welsh Brothers Madeira, 1779

Madeira Verdelho

The oldest known Welsh Bros. Madeira. The Welsh family coat of
arms is stamped on the wax seal. Welsh Bros. established in 1794
and were the largest shipper of Madeira wine before the odium
outbreak in 1852. They were important suppliers to the Russian and
the Swedish courts. In 1893 John F. Welsh was appointed the
Russian Consul. In the second part of the 19th century, Welsh Bros.
focussed on shipping high quality bottled wines to the United States.
They were known to mature their wines in "estufas do sol" rather than
artificially heated estufas. Welsh Bros. co-founded the Madeira Wine
Company in 1913.

Messias Ruby &Tawny Port Duo

Ruby & Tawny Port presented in a double dark mocha silk-lined gift box as illustrated.

Caves Messias is a historic family owned company that produced high quality port since 1926. Under their care and attention they have become renown for the quality of their colheitas and vintage ports at a competitive price.

Reviews & Tasting Notes:

Messias Ruby Port
Dark ruby colour. Aromas of ripe red fruits and floral notes. It is delicate, with balanced sweetness and pleasant finish.
These full bodied, fruity red ports are the ideal partner for a cheeseboard, chocolate dessert or even an intense Port wine reduction. Full flavoured cheeses such as a good farmhouse Cheddar or Red Leicester would harmoniously accompany this port style.

Palmer Port, Non Vintage

Palmer Cask 150 | 150 Year Old Tawny Port

What happened in 1867? It was the time of Romanticism and the invention of dynamite; of the visionary novels of Jules Verne and of the first telegraphic connection between Portugal and England; but also of the appearance of phylloxera in Europe. While all this was happening, a port wine was ageing calmly in the cellars of the Douro.

Palmer Cask 150 is the survivor of a time of change, invention and plagues. His real story is printed in gold on the glass of the bottle, in direct contact with the wine. While its label tells the story known by all, the one of its time, it also conceals part of that memory.

The dark ruby/purple-colored, slightly austere and angular 2011 Montrose possesses a more masculine style with firm tannin, medium body, and cassis, black currant and earth notes. The wine tails off slightly on the palate leaving an acidic, tangy character. It will benefit from several more years of cellaring, and should last for 15+ years thereafter.

Armagnac

Hors d'Age, de Malliac
In original wooden case with the producer's original wax seal

An Hors d'age Armagnac is a blend of various exceptional vintages which, collectively, are more than 10 years old.

This blend shows the heart of the Armagnac aromas with a palette of candied fruits (prune, apricot, orange peel) associated with mellow aromas of wood. Sometimes patisserie notes and spices add tasty indulgence to the whole. A touch of rancio and dried fruits confirm the maturity of the blend. In the mouth it is balanced with good length and a controlled heat.

It is an eau-de-vie for pleasure that can be tasted during a meal with a dessert, one that can be shared with friends

Bollinger, Non Vintage

Bollinger Champagne Special Cuvee 750ml

Bollinger is made from first-run juice only, and the majority of vineyards used have Premier and Grand Cru status, resulting in a full-bodied Champagne of great class. Delightful pale gold in colour, the mousse is light and persistent
Bollinger’s signature is a dry, rich, biscuity style, a mature and complex full flavoured Champagne that has long been popular with the UK market. Much of the flavour can be attributed to fermentation of the wine in oak barrels which is not common practice in the Champagne region. Bollinger is also unique among Champagne houses in that the reserve wines are all bottled in magnum and with natural cork, a huge, labour-intensive effort.

Cognac

Cognac Prunier
Petite Fine champagne Cognac

-1960's 'Reserve of the Prunier Family'

A good Cognac is subjected to a complex manufacturing process. It is never made from the eau-de-vie of a single cru, but from a `marriage' of eaux-de-vie that vary in age and cru - some as old as a hundred. To establish the age of a Cognac, only the number of years spent in oak casks or barrels are taken into account. As soon as an eau-de-vie is decanted into a glass recipient, it ceases to age. The longer it is left to age, the more a Cognac gains in complexity, fragrance, aromas and taste (spiced, pepper and cinnamon flavours).

Cognac Bisquit Dubouche, Non Vintage

Champagne Napoleon Cognac

An old release of Bisquite Cognac with an average age of 20 years. Bisquit is produced in Jarnac, in the Petite Champagne region of Cognac. We estimate that this was bottled during the 1960s.
Legend has it that Napoleon took crates of Courvoisier Cognac into exile with him to the island of St Helena, and the crew coined the Cognac as "Napoleon's Cognac".

Tasting Notes
Elegant copper highlights, a lingering bouquet, and a powerful, round flavour make this a very distinguished cognac. The oaky characteristics and candied fruit flavours coat the palate after the first sip.

A wonderful cognac to enjoy as a digestif at the end of a meal.
